Shotgun Sales and Handling Incorporated continued to produce these types of shotguns until World War II when they switched to centerfire ammunition which exploded on impact due to propellant gelatin expansion inside the shotgun barrels. The company closed its doors in 1945 after experiencing financial difficulties caused by wartime inflation

In 1865, Lieutenant Colonel John Pemberton established Fort Wingate on Mount Pleasant overlooking today's Old Town Plaza and did not find it necessary to garrison the fort because he thought about 4 months' time he would be able to move his brigade headquarters from Tucson to Albuquerque upon its completion of repairs at Apache Pass near Phoenixville (now Winslow). When news arrived in Tucson that General Grant had been killed at Cold Harbor and Major General Antonio López Magaña had taken command there was much excitement throughout New Mexico over this event as it demonstrated Ulysses S. Grant's power as a generalissimo over both armies within Southwest United States

A Brief History of Albuquerque Albuquerque, New Mexico was founded on January 6, 1540 by Spanish traders as part of the Mexican-American War. Named for the central plaza in Mexico City where news of the arrival of Spaniards spread, the city quickly grew to become one of the most important centers in New Spain. From its inception, Albuquerque was a center of trade and culture. It played an important role in both Mexican and American history. The city's economy expanded rapidly during the 18th century due to its location at the crossroads of Central America and North America. By 1800, Albuquerque had become one of America's largest cities. In 1847, it became part-time territory of Mexico following its victory over Ulysses S. Grant in the Mexican–American War. As part-time territory, Albuquerque had no vote but enjoyed a degree of autonomy which led to somegrowth within its political system. In 1912, New Mexico became a state and Albuquerque continued to grow as a major cultural and commercial center within that state. In 1920, Alameda County was formed from portions of Bernalillo County and districts from Jemez County were added to form what is now known as Nuevo Leon County (New León). This move signaled an end to rapid growth in Nuevo Leon County which coincided with statewide efforts by Republican Party officials to consolidate all southern New Mexicans into one single entity under GOP control. The result was some high profile controversies including charges that county commissioners used their power to manipulate land values; that Democratic party officials engaged in graft; and that developers received preferential treatment from county officials duringthe early years post-statehood (1922 - 1945). Despite these issues however, Nuevo Leon County continue tounsually dominate much rural areas around Santa Fe until after 1990 when Hispanic voters increasingly began electing representatives without regard for partisan boundaries
