Alamogordo, New Mexico is a small town in the County of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The population was 2,684 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Santa Fe County. Alamogordo lies on the Trans-Pecos River and is located about 50 miles east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The first permanent settlement in what is now Alamogordo was made by Puebloan people in 1775 as part of an effort to gain access to water resources that lay beyond their traditional territory. In 1881, gold was discovered near Alamogordo and quickly became a major economic center due to its location and related mineral wealth. This growth led to social unrest and tension with neighboring towns until1892 when Congress passed the Land Grant Act which gave land grants to individual ranchers throughoutNew Mexico under the provisions that these grants not be sold or given away without special consideration being given to Native American residents who had helped establish this area as a center for commerce and culture. In 1892, Indian Territory was created out of portions of Arizona and New Mexico after Mexican independence from Spain. As part of this changeover, many Native Americans were forced into new areas where they were forcibly removed from their homes and villages. Many of these individuals did not have any choice butto move because they could not surviveto live within walking distance of white settlements where they may have faced exploitation or abuse if they refused to leave. Alamogordo began its heyday as a commercial center due in large part to its location along the Trans-Pecos River which made it easily accessible by wagon train traffic from all over North America bringing goods back home with them on their way southward or northward across the border into Texas or California (and sometimes both). The river also provided transportation for goods during times when navigation was difficult even though there are no rapids present today on this stretch of river bed! It wasn’t until around 1930 that Alamogordo began experiencing significant decline as a resultof World War II Paper Mill construction nearby which caused extensive damage both physically and financially; however, Alamogordo has since bounced back strong again thanks in large part to military Base closures & recent investment including research facilities & new housing developments announced by Army Corps Of Engineers district office here since 2009! Finally we should mention some very exciting news just recently - work is currently underway on restoring/updatingOld US Post Office building located adjacent thereto!

Alamogordo is a town in New Mexico, United States. The population was 8,564 at the 2010 census. Alamogordo is the seat of both Alamogordo County and Cochise County. The name "Alamogordo" means "place of the buffalo." The first European to visit this area was Francisco Vásquez de Coronado in 1540. He named the area San Miguel de Allende after his patron saint, and he also founded a mission here in 1541. In 1797, Don Manuel Armijo granted land to General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna for his military academy and military post called San Antonio del Bacalar (San Augustine's Fort). From 1812 to 1821, this fort served as the capital of New Mexico during Mexican rule over that part of North America. In 1824, when Santa Fe became the provisional capital of New Mexico under US control following Mexican defeat at Alvarado's Adobe Walls, Alamogordo became its terminus on Ute Pass Road near present-day White Sands Missile Range. In 1865, after more than 50 years of Spanish colonial rule in what is now northeastern New Mexico, Albuquerque emerged as an independent municipality; however, it retained its autonomy until 1912 when it federated with other localities within Albuquerque into what would becomeNM Statehood. In 1905–06,[1] Arakawa Mining Company organized an unsuccessful campaign to establish a lead mine at Alamogordo by buying up parcels of land from local citizens who had leases on properties outside their villages or townships while they awaited governmental approvals for their holdings which were then considered worthless without Lead ore discoveries below them so they could sell their interests to Arakawa company without any right to vote on decisions made about how those lands should be developed because no one knew where Lead deposits might exist beneath those properties other than surface if any such deposits existed! In 1917[2], when NM Statehood was achieved,[3] Alamogordo became an incorporated municipality with a Mayor/Council form of government like most other municipalities in NM but continued to enjoy some form of autonomous status quo until 1912 when it federated with other localities within Albuquerque into what would becomeNM Statehood thereby giving Alamogordonians full access to all state services including education and social welfare despite still feeling like aliens among us! It wasn't until 1951 that construction began on US Route 66 bypassing downtown Lahontan making Alamogordon even less accessible so much development took place instead towards east side Lama Tuba Lodge which today forms part of nearby Red Rock Resort although back then it only served as stopovers along I-40&I-25 & especially during rush hours so travelers didn't have anything better available them apart from crossing I-25 southbound before turning around northbound just long enough for them to cross back over & continue their journey another two miles or so down I-40&I-25 before finally reaching Lahontan again where they'd spend the night before continuing their journey the next day! Today many businesses are located along US Route 66 Eatwell Rd east side Lama Tuba Lodge becoming known as 'The Business Strip'
Alamogordo was founded in 1867 by Father Miguel de la Pena and Dr. Augustín Romero as a mission town, named for the Alamosa River. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the foot of the Rocky Mountains and its access to cattle and mineral resources. In 1901, Alamogordo became an incorporated city. In 1912, Alamogordo was chosen as the site of New Mexico's first state university, which became known as New Mexico State University. The university retains its headquarters in Alamogordo today. In 1935, Alamogordo also became home to the United States Air Force's airfield at Lamont AFB.
