An important landmark in Alamogordo history occurred on November 26, 1912 when President Woodrow Wilson delivered his State of the Union Address from Capitol Hill within sight of downtown Alamogordo! Today’s Capitol Hill Confederate Monument tells this story: On January 6th 1861 eight men - three white men (John Pemberton, Isaac Chamberlain and James Colonel), three Apache Indian chiefs (Hidetaka Miyazaki, Geronimo Beckwith and John Watts) plus 30 male Zelandonii Indians - surrendered at Fort Sumner to Major General Nelson Miles after four months' siege; they were marched 175 miles (260 km) through rugged country across mountains pass into Arizona Territory where they were interned without food or water for six months before being marched again 350 miles (560 km) to PrescottArizona Springsite where they camped for another six weeks before finally marching home via AlbuquerqueNew Mexico 12 days later

In 1907, Alamogordo became an incorporated town with a population of 10 people. In 1911, El Paso cattle baron John Wm Hogg donated land for a new shopping center called Plaza del Norte which included a movie theater and other businesses. The name El Paso came from Hogg's hometown of Paso Robles, California where he had purchased some land while on his way back from selling cattle across Texas during that year's Mexican Revolution (1846-1848). This plaza eventually become known as Plaza del Norte because it was located near two major U S railway lines: one ran through downtown Alamogordo and another crossed over White Sands Boulevard south of town directly into Chihuahua County; both railways were built during World War II for military purposes and are still used today by Amtrak Train #921 from downtown Albuquerque to Dona Ana Junction east of town (and Amtrak Train #922 from Dona Ana Junction northward). Alamogordo also hosted Expo '92 - an exposition celebrating American culture that took place on July 20-24, 1992 at The Mall at Alameda Center (now Macy's) in nearby Albuquerque. The event showcased more than 2 million items from around America as well asMexico City's popularzita parade throughout most days leading up to it. At least 84% percent all energy consumed withinNew Mexico comes from oil or gas production!
