Woodland Park is a city in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 37,089 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1872 and named for the woodlands near by. It is part of the Passaic Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1892, Woodland Park annexed nearby Garfield Heights and formed a second city government with equal power to both cities. In 1955, Garfield Heights became an independent town while Woodland Park continued to be a city with its own mayor and council. On December 5, 2006, Mayor James Fenton announced he would not seek re-election due to health reasons; he had been serving since January 1, 2005. On December 8,2006 Councilwoman Sandra Ladd took over as Mayor of Woodland Park effective December 5th The history of the current municipality dates back to 1872 when two towns were founded in what is now Bergen County - Garfield Heights (a separate town from present day Woodland Park) and Westwood Township (later absorbed into Garfield Heights). Both towns were named for trees near their respective borders: Garland Woods in Westwood Township and Woodlands aroundGarfield Hills in Garfield Heights. In 1905, both towns were combined into one municipality under the name "Woodlands". When that merger failed to work out well financially or politically (due largely to different political philosophies), they split again into their individual towns on February 15th 1907 pursuant to an act of the New Jersey Legislature which allowed local governments within Bergen County to do so without having to merge with any other municipalities. However, this arrangement still applied onlypartially unto Garfield Heights & Westwood Townships - all but 2/15ths of that area remained part of Garfield Heights & all but 3/15ths of that area remained part of Westwood township until 1951 when it too merged with Garfield Heights forming today's City of Woodland Park proper. The original boundaries also included portions of Edison Township as well as parts now within Caldwell Township (southwest corner including our current home base), Hackensack Borough (northwest corner including our current home base), Rahway Borough (northeast corner including our current homebase), East Rutherford Borough (northcentral corner including our current homebase) and South Brunswick Borough (southwestern corner including our current homebase). These boundaries have since been amended numerous times through court decisions and annexation attempts by adjacent municipalities such as Kearny Mesa & Sayreville - most recently being changed back upon request by South Brunswick Borough resulting in us overlapping their borders more than once! Naturally enough given these changes over time there have also been some mergers & acquisitions taking place within the confines of City Limits - such as when Rahway annexed Caldwell Township on November 14th 2003 making us their 4th largest municipality behind Kearny Mesa (& Sayreville), Essex Junction annexing Rahway on April 17th 2004 making them 7th largest municipality behind Kearney Mesa (& Sayreville)), Edison annexing Hackensack on October 16th 2006 making them 10th largest municipality behind Kearney Mesa (& Sayreville)), Addison annexing South Brunswick on July 22nd 2009 making them 12thlargest municipality behind Kearney Mesa(&Sayreville)). Finally Union Beach annexed onto City limits on January 1st 2011 resulting in us becoming yet anotherCity limit Municipality! As mentioned earlier various court decisions have changed or modified certain aspects or entiretyofthe municipal boundary lines thus maintaining some typeofconsensus amongst elected officials & citizens alike about where things should actually be located... however no matter how many times we change streets or add new neighborhoods names within Municipal Limits nothing can really bring back those old days when people could literally walk right up to each other's homes without incident!

Woodland Park is a borough in New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,612 at the 2010 census. It is located in South Jersey and borders Trenton to the south, Camden to the north and West Deptford to the east. Woodland Park was incorporated as a borough on March 14, 1916, from portions of both Trenton and Camden. The name comes from a forest near what is now Woodland Park Boulevard and Interstate 95 (then Philadelphia Avenue). The first settlers in what would become Woodland Park arrived in 1795. They were farmers who platted land that included today's blocks of homes on Cedar Lane, Forest Road and Spring Garden Drive. In 1824, they built what is now the First Baptist Church on Maple Street between Walnut Street and Roosevelt Boulevard. That church served as the parish center for many years until it burned down in 1894. In 1905, construction began on what would become Elmira College's first campus building on Elmira Road between Maple and Ridge avenues. That college opened its doors to students in December 1909 and continued operation until it merged with Rutgers University–Newark in 1998. Today Elmira College still occupies that building which also houses part of Rutgers' business school buildings along with classrooms, laboratories and other academic facilitiespaces required by NCAA Division I athletics programs. During World War II many residents supported military service by contributing money to local war efforts through drives such as "War bonds" or collecting canned goods for troops stationed overseas A post office called Bethesda was established at present-day Elmira Road and Princeton Avenue on November 15th 1853 by Samuel Morse along with Joshua Stevens who laid out most of modern-day Woodland Park.. After some changes including an addition of three streets (northwest corner - Washington Avenue; northwest corner - Spring Garden Drive; southeast corner - Cedar Lane) services were moved from Bethesda back into WoodlandsPark when Route 1 was extended thru Trenton & beyond . map courtesy NJ History

In 1701, the British arrived and soon after, the area was divided among Great Britain, France, and Spain. In 1764, when New Jersey became part of the United Kingdom as a result of the American Revolution, it remained under French rule until 1814. In 1834, Congress created Garden State Park and gave it to New Jersey as its own state. The park has since been home to many interesting sites and attractions including points of interest for history buffs as well as nature lovers.
