Woodland Park is a town in New Jersey, United States. The population was 24,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Earlville metropolitan area. It is located on the eastern edge of Philadelphia County and adjacent to Hackensack River valley and Allentown Township. The name Woodland Park was given to the town by John C. Calhoun who purchased land from Nicholas Biddle in 1810. The first house built in what is now Woodland Park was erected by Michael Hill in 1824. In 1828, Ebenezer Augustus Sibley became one of the first white men to live in what is now Woodland Park when he bought 640 acres (247 hectares) from Nicholas Biddle for $4,000USD. Sibley named his new home "Mt. Pleasant". In 1872, Andrew Mellon donated 350 acres (152 hectares) to the town for park purposes and public schools were established there soon after including Mount Pleasant School District #1 which merged into School District #2 in 1934). The current high school building was completed in 1928 and replaced an earlier school which had been destroyed by fire that year. In 1931, Sayre–Hudson Regional High School opened as a combined boys/girls high school with all grades kindergarten through 12th grade served under one roof until it closed its doors in 1964 due to financial difficulties caused by suburbanization of the boroughs within Philadelphia County while Woodland Park continued to serve as its own separate community without any interlocking educational boundaries despite having no municipal government or police department other than those provided by School District #2 which itself dissolved following unification with neighboring Borough of Glassboro resulting in a decrease overall enrollment at Sayre–Hudson thenceforth although both districts still maintain a relationship with each other providing social services etc.). The original woodlands near present day Mount Pleasant Road and OldDutch Rd were deeded to the town by Ebenezer Augustus Sibley on April 10, 1828 for $4,000USD (). Woodland Park is a borough located in the New Jersey metropolitan area. It was formed on April 1, 1908 from portions of Township 3 (now part of Bogota) and Borough 2 (now part of Paterson). The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. The first European settlers in what is now Woodland Park were Dutch immigrants who arrived in 1630. The first English settlers were Huguenots who fled France during the French Revolution. From these early pioneers came many descendants of whom still live in the borough today. One important event that took place in Woodland Park occurred on November 9, 1875 when three men - George Hinton, James Weldon and Samuel Morse - laid out a town square block from where they would later build their homes and businesses. This event became known as "The Square Mile." Weldon eventually became president of Pennsylvania Railroad which built its largest line through the town center including one of two tunnels under Passaic River then called "The Turf." Morse also played an important role in developing this railroad line with his construction company being responsible for building one half of the world's first electric wire subway system. In 1907, local developer John Prentice purchased 8 acres adjacent to present-day First Baptist Church for $1,000 to create what would become known as Woodlands Park or simply Prentice's Woods. The original trees were cut down within weeks and replaced with small cedar posts that remain today as part of park history. In 1916, Prentice donated 5 acres east side of First Baptist Church to form Laurel Hill Cemetery which served as both woodlawn and cemetery until it closed its doors in 1978 due to vandalism by students at Roosevelt High School while seeking Halloween costumes! Today only a few headstones remain from this time period including those belonging to Revd Dr Alvin Hendrickson (1868-1948), Mrs Addie Hendrickson (1871-1964), Mr & Mrs Lillian Morse (1872-1965), Dr Laura Sayers Goodwin(1921-) and Revd Jesse Hardesty (1892-1983). Eventually all but five graves were removed making way for new development; however brick markers remain inside current Laurel Hill Cemetery still bearing witness to this historically significant event! Prentice’s Woods continued its growth following World War II when developers began purchasing additional land adjoining Prentice’s Woods leading ultimately to what is now Midtown Square along Third Avenue Northeast near Central Avenue NE.. Midtown Square retains muchoriginality dating back to 1927 when city fathers approved plans for a shopping mall next door which never materialized due to opposition from residents! A similar proposal was made years later but again without success until finally HealthSouth Medical Center moved into their current building across from Southfield Lake on Broad Street NW in 2006! After World War II there was increased demand for housing resulting in another increase in development along Third Avenue Northeast between Central Avenue NE and Maple Street NW including such icons as Regal Cinemas, JB HiFi Radio Shack, Sears Optical Store etcetera becoming known collectively as Midtown Square Village!. This influx left behind numerous examples of architecture often associated with each respective industry such as Regal Cinemas being built directly on top of an old factory complex while other stores like JB HiFi Radio Shack occupy buildings that have been used multiple times over since their inception! One notable example is Sears Optical Store which currently occupies former United States Steel plant on Maple Street NW facing Third Avenue Northeast after being vacant since 1996!
