Woodland Park is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 20,642 at the 2010 census. Woodland Park is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Woodland Park were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1664. The area was part of Bergen Township until 1834 when it became part of Morris County. In 1868, the township and portions of Bergen Township were combined to form a new township, which still exists as an independent municipality today. In 1915, the borough of Hackensack merged with Woodland Park to form a single municipality. At that time, Hackensack had a population of 15,000 while Woodland Park had a population of 30,000. The population growthrate during the early 21st century has been dramatic; however due to high levels of immigration from Asia and Latin America (particularly Mexico), only 4% (or 3,225 people)of the town's current population are native-born residents - ranking it 9th out of 100 municipalities in New Jersey for this measure (behind Monmouth Junction (10%), Bridgewater (11%), Paramus (12%) and Union City (15%). Accordingly much work has been done over recent years by both local and state government officials to attract more locals and encourage foreign investment - including plans for an airport and $325 million for public infrastructure development over 10 years; all designed to increase economic vitality and create jobs throughout the community

Woodland Park is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough had a population of 18,130. The name comes from the park that once stood there and was also known as "The Forest." Woodland Park was incorporated on December 12, 1908. The first settler to arrive in what is now Woodland Park was John Leland who came overlanders in 1799. The current borough was established as part of a merger of five municipalities on November 3, 1951: Glenwood Heights (renamed Caldwell), Hackensack (renamed Haddon Heights), Mount Olivet (renamed Mount Olivet Township), Prospectville (renaming Pleasantville Borough) and Uniondale (renaming Paramus). On November 3, 1951, all but Uniondale were merged into Glenwood Heights Municipality while Prospectville remained an independent municipality until its merger with Glenwood Heights on December 12, 1958. According to the 2000 US Census data,[1] 18,130 people live in Woodland Park including 2,821 households and 809 families. Of these residents 21% are Han Chinese and 31% are black or African American. White non-Hispanic residents make up 58% of the population while Hispanic made up 13%. In terms of age distribution 25% of residents are under the age of 30 years old; 32% are between 30 and 44 years old; 26% are 45 to 64 years old; 9% are 65 years or older. The median household income is $54,500 while the median family income is $79,700 according to the 2010 US Census data.[2]

The British Crown granted these servants land and allowed them to purchase their own homes, which they did starting in the 18th century. In 1970, Woodland Park was annexed by New York City, making it one of the most heavily populated areas in Brooklyn. It is also an important political center because it has been a strongly Democratic stronghold for decades.
