Woodland Park is a municipality in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,151 as of the 2010 census. Woodland Park is located on the border of Middlesex and Essex counties. It is bordered by Plainsboro to the north, Edison to the east, Paterson to the south-east and Newark Liberty International Airport to the south-west. The area that now makes up Woodland Park was first settled in 1795 by Germans from Hanover who had come overlanders as part of a wave of migration following the American Revolution. In 1852, portions of what are now Middlesex and Essex counties were annexed by New York City; this left Woodland Park as an enclave within Bergen County. In 1920, a new township was formed from parts of four other municipalities: Township North (later Westwood), Township South (later East Rutherford), Township East (later Glassboro) and Township West (later Caldwell). The name “Woodland Park” was chosen because it referred to a tract of woodland lying near Fort Washington on Long Island where British officers stationed during World War II stored munitions. The plant at Princeton University that produced gasoline for military vehicles soon became one of New Jersey’s biggest employers; its production helped increase vehicle traffic on then-paved roads in central NJ which improved air quality for residents living close by. After years of decline caused by prohibition and other factors, manufacturing jobs ended abruptly in this sector during the early 1990s but restarted about two decades later with considerable success thanks to advances in technology including 3D printing and metal printing technology which has made products like car bumpers more durable than ever before! A report prepared for NJ TRANSIT shows that although there have been some setbacks since then such as increased pollution levels resulting from increased vehicle use along with lost jobs due to automation – overall business has been booming with ridership up 10% year-over-year – many see potential for even more growth given recent investments including $10 million towards expanding PATH train service into town; new bike lanes; and plans for an arena/parking lot expansion that will include a multi-purpose stadium/community center! The current name for the town – which originates from "wooden" + "park" – commemorates its location within close reach of several excellent parks including Asbury Park's Giants Stadium and East Rutherford's Devils Arena. The townsfolk of Woodland Park are proud of their history and maintain a strong sense of community identity that has helped make them one of America's most vibrant communities
