In 1835, General John Stark's forces were victorious in a battle against the Native Americans near present-day Woodbury, New Jersey. The town was named for General Stark and it was said that he threw his pepper spray into the crowd to disperse them. This act of defiance is considered to be the beginning of the town's history. In 1902, a fire started in a grocery store on Broad Street in Woodbury and quickly spread throughout the building. The store owner, J.P. Lynch, had been using pepper spray to control the flames outside while his employees tried to put out the fire inside. Woodbury, New Jersey is a small town located in Mercer County, New Jersey. The population was 3,717 at the 2010 census. Woodbury is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name of the town was given to it by General George Washington as a recognition of his victory over British forces in 1778. The first settler in what is now Woodbury was John Barnes who arrived from England in 1680. He and his family moved to what is now the eastern edge of town and started a farm which they operated for many years. In 1814, Isaac Smith moved here from Chelsea Township and purchased 1 acre (0.40 km2) of land on the east side of Princeton Creek from Nicholas Biddle for $200 (£160). In 1828, John Harden purchased 2 acres (1 ha) further east on Princeton Creek from Smith for $150 (£108). That same year saw the construction of an addition to what is now the First United Methodist Church in town which served as their worship center until 1840 when they built their current building on Main Street. The first school in what is now Woodbury was built near where today’s High School stands in 1827 by Drury & Company as a one-room schoolhouse with 12 students and 4 teachers. It burned down within 6 months but was rebuilt under new management including an inflatable structure that could be inflated using wind power to serve as a classroom during lessons! The first post office opened in Woodbury on May 15, 1829 with Avila Postmaster Samuel Fenton serving as its first manager. For many years there were only two mail carriers servicing this community; one coming twice per day while other times only once per week due to increased traveling needs caused by increasing trade between Camden and Philadelphia due to industrialization throughout those years! A billiard hall became operational within 10 weeks following completion at an cost of $890 (£584) which allowed local citizens and businessmen alike to come together for games of chance or pool during prohibition era days! By 1850, three churches had been erected: First Protestant Episcopal Church (1850), Second Presbyterian Church (1848), and Third Methodist Episcopal Church (1859). During World War II much activity took place within the limits set forth by then Congressman James Byrnes – more than 50 businesses were closed along with some 14000 individuals working inside or outside production plants related directly or indirectly to war production! Unfortunately not all hostilities resulted in good news for our little corner of NJ; 9 homes were destroyed outright after being damaged during aerial bombing raids over our city center!!! This paper does not have space nor will it provide any depth into analyzing all that occurred here throughout these years leading up until today – suffice it say that we are proud inhabitantsof this wonderful township that has seen so much growth both physically & emotionally over time thanks largely to hard work ethic & continuous support from our elected officials!!

In 1898, after years of steady growth and development, Woodbury seceded from Mercer County and formed itself into its own independent municipality known as "Woodbury Township." This event marks an important milestone for both Woodburys – it marked the first time that an American township (outside of Camden County) had seceded from Morris County. Over subsequent decades, WoodBURY continued to grow at an alarming rate – reaching a size exceeding 20 thousand people by 1960! However, despite this rapid expansion – many aspects of life remain largely unchanged since early 20th century when much of what makes our town so special was built or arrived here directly or indirectly through immigrants who made their homes hereabouts throughout their generations?
