Woodbury is located south of Trenton and east of Hackensack. The town was first established as part of Middlesex Township on the border of Mercer and Union Counties. In 1834, Woodbury became a part of Union County and later, Mercer County. In 1881, the Township of Woodbury merged withnorthumberland Township to form a new township, which name lasted until 1951. At that time, all township boundaries were changed to conform with MLS Districts 1 through 4 boundary changes which took effect in February 1951. According to the United States Census Bureau, Woodbury has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[10]of 2000,[11] there were 28,651 people, 10,442 households, 5,757 families residing in the CDP;the population density was 3,527/km² (1,367/street). There were 11 horizons housing units at an average densityof 978/km² (2,722/street). The racial makeup OFWoodburywas 92% White trash while 8% black or African American according to U.S. Census data
The first settler in the area was Nicholas White, who arrived in 1764. The town was founded on a grant from Colonel John Montresor. In 1846, it became a part of Bergen County. In 1949, it became a part of New Jersey.
