The Town of Woodbury was formed on April 14, 1797 from parts of the Township of Rahway and portions of theTownship of Franklin. It was named for Thomas Woodbury (1756-1824), an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1801 to 1805 and again from 1821 to 1823. On December 12, 1893, a group of farmers led by George Waring organized a town meeting in order to discuss moving their farmsteads into what is now West Orange Township so that they might be closer to City Hall. They voted 5-2 in favor of incorporation and adopted the name "Woodbury". The first store opened in 1898. In 1915, large tracts were acquired within present day East Orange Township for development into what became known as "West Orange". In 1931, sections located east and south of Roslyn Avenue were annexed into Woodbury; this annexation created what is now greaterTrenton Township which at that time had a population over 100,000 people. Additionally Cloudcroft Road between Roslyn Avenue and Cedar Lane was annexed in 1935 which gave rise to present day South Trenton Township. According to the 2010 US Census there are 10,858 residents living within borders including 8604 households with 6994 families residing therein... According to HUD’s 2017 report “Homes or Communities Living Below poverty line: Woodbury Borough” it has been reported that residents make median incomes below $35K/year with an estimated 30% owner occupied housing units while remaining 60% rental units

Woodbury is a town in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. Woodbury was founded in 1795 by Loyalists who fled British rule and took up residence along the Delaware River. The first store opened in 1802. In 1865, Woodbury became part of the newly created township of Brick Township. The first European settlement in what is now Ocean County was made on July 4, 1663, by colonists from England on Staten Island when they landed there after sailing down the river from Holland. On October 7 of that year, Anthony Johnson sent out a detachment from Newark under command of Captain George Monmouth to establish a permanent post on this island with stores and barracks for Native American forces opposing English colonization efforts. By December 1663, only ten men remained at Fort Orange; all were killed by Indians during their attempt to build an additional defensivepost against Dutch attack). On May 5th 1795, citizens of Bordentown petitioned for township status as did two other townships that had been established within the new county: Lawrence Township and Atlantic City Township (the latter being formed from parts of both Bordentown and Atlantic City). On November 9th 1796 voters approved creation of Woodbury Township; it included parts of Lawrence and Brick Townships as well as much of what is now Sussex County. The first official business conducted in Woodbury was the organization of a committee to purchase land for public square which met on December 7th1796. One acre plotwas purchased for $5/acre/year subsequent years until 1800 when purchase rate increased to $10/acre/year due to development around Squareville Prior to 1802 when wood began burning oil lamps documenters could not find any record or evidence that humans ever set foot in what is now known as "Woodbury". It has been reported that early residents may have come here because logs were scarce enough near Philadelphia so they can be turned into lumber while weaning away their dependence on Europe's factories where timber would have been harder to get hold of In 1802 while still living near Philadelphia my husband came across some old crates full o'logs just outside our house I asked him how he managed them he said well I think its safe TO SAY THEY WERE TRICKED INTO MAKING HIM HIS OWN LOGGING TRUCK NOW FOR ALL WE KNOW THEY MAY HAVE LEFT WITH THE OLD CRATES AFTER HE DELIVERED THEM The first school open here was taught by Rev John Wilding (a Presbyterian minister) who also started Easton Academy which closed about 1918 . Reverend Wilding also built one small Chapel which served local students until about 1830 . After ReverendWilding left this area became more denominationalized with several churches opening up over time including First Methodist Church (1848), Second Methodist Church (1860), Episcopal Zion Church (1868), Presbyterian church #1 (18501870), Congregationalist church #2(1872-1920) among others It should be noted though many denominations have worshipped here throughout history there are few if any physical remnants remaining today especially since most events such as weddings or funerals take place elsewhere these daysREEK GULLS THAT LAND HERE ALSO REMAIN HOSTILE TO US TODAY
