The first Europeans to visit what is now Woodbury were Dutch traders in 1624. The first permanent European settlers were Swedes who arrived in 1714 and named their village Rensselaerwyck after René van der Sarich, an important factor in the establishment of New Netherland. In 1758, English colonists arrived and named their settlement Yorktown after King George II of Great Britain. In 1821, a post office called "Worchester" was established in what is now Woodbury Heights; it remained operational until 1840. The name change came about because Worchester Township was created from parts of Warren and Union counties on December 15 that year as part of a land grant to Colonel Elijah Howe (1785–1851). Howe had been one of the founders of Princeton University and helped organize that institution's first class in 1809. He also served as its Trustee from 1821 to 1830 and as its President from 1830 to 1840. On November 26, 1800, during the American Revolutionary War, General John Burgoyne's army reached Princeton by way of Princeton Junction near where present-day Weequahic Avenue splits off from I-95 just east of Woodbury Township limits; this event is commemorated by a plaque at that junction commemorating the Battle Of Princeton Junction which took place on November 26th 1800 The town was incorporated as a township on April 14th 1881 by Act No., 8 Geo., 2 Cæsar A., Secunda sessiuni et Anno MDCCLXXXVII (New Jersey Statutes at Large), being one day after section 9(a) (1) became operative under act No.: 80 & 32 Pamphlet entitled: An Act To Promote Agriculture And Commerce In The Townships Of Warren And Union Counties’ Northampton Division On Saturday Evening Of October 7th 1880 At its creation there were only 3 white residents living within limits thereof while 6 African Americans lived within Rutherfordton/Newark area newly ceded to America by England during Treaty made between Great Britain and America on July 24th 1776 This area became known as “The Fort Hill NegroESe Settlement” located adjacent to present day East Brunswick Township

The Municipality of Woodbury was established on July 1, 1873, when the Township of Woodbury and the Villages of Arlington Heights, Chesterfield and Newtown were amalgamated. The Township of Woodbury is located in southeastern New Jersey along the Delaware River. As a result of its location within New Jersey, the Township has jurisdiction over a large area including parts of Camden County as well as Burlington County. The township borders Rahway to the south-west, Haddon Heights to the north-east, East Brunswick to the east and Scotch Plains-on-Hudson to the west. It contains parts of both Middlesex County and Atlantic County. According to United States Census Bureau data, the township had a total population of 84 , comprising 25% (27) males and 75% (41) females. The population density was 3 per square mile (1/10thousandth part), which is lower than both Rahway's population density at 9 per square mile (3/100 thousandth part) and Haddon Heights' population density at 10 per square mile (4/100 thousandth part). Hispanic or Latino residents made up 8% (2 )of all residents while non-Hispanic Whites made up 96% (78 ). In terms of ancestry, only 1% (.08%) of residents were English but 95% (.94%) were Irish . In comparison with nearby Camden Borough which had a percentage distribution similar to that in Woodbury but with some exceptions such as substantially more black residents it can be said that for most groups within this municipality identification came from outside sources rather than being homegrown . Despite this heterogeneity there are numerousalities found within boroughs across different regions throughout New Jersey where communities have developed around railroad lines or other infrastructure hubs
