The history of guns in Westwood, New Jersey can be traced back to the early 1800s. At that time, gun owners in the town enjoyed easy access to firearms and used them for various purposes. One of the earliest guns to be owned and used in Westwood was a lock-and-stock musket dating back to 1795. The musket was used by farmers and militia members during the French and Indian War. In 1807, a storeroom at the Presbyterian church on York Road was leased for use as a gunsmith shop. By 1840, there were 10 stores in Westwood with over 100 firearms being sold each week. During the American Civil War, Lower Township residents volunteered their services as soldiers. Many of these men took up arms due to their love of country andfreedom. Eleven Upper Township residents also enlisted in Union army service during the war. Of these men, six served with distinction: Thomas Jarrell (captured at Gettysburg), John Witherspoon (sergeant at Antietam), John Sweeny (major at Fredericksburg), Elijah Hicks (corporal at Chancellorsville), Samuel Pappas (dragoons) and Michael Hogan (). Withdrawal from war brought about by economic conditions led to increased firearm ownership in Westwood throughout Reconstruction Era times until well into the 21st century. Gunownership continued unabated through prohibition efforts which began in 1919; however, gun rights advocates eventually prevailed over prohibitionists in 1923 when New Jersey became one of 26 states that ratified Prohibition Amendment 381 (). As alcohol consumption increased throughout New Jersey beginning around this time period, so too did handgun ownership rates withinWestwood community,. In 1927, an ordinance went into effect regulating handguns within westweston limits (). In 1933, state Senator Joseph Alesi introduced Senate Bill No.(S) 654 which would have repealed portions of local ordinances regulating handguns within westweston limits (). However, amendments were made to that bill subsequent thereto which would have kept certain restrictions on handgun ownership while still allowing citizens effective Second Amendment rights (); this final version passed both houses of legislature without any opposition on May 9th (), becoming known as The Gun Control Act of 1933 (). Overall it is safe to say that Westwood's longstanding gun culture has had minimal impact since passage of this landmark legislation many years ago

Westwood is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,915 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden metropolitan area. Westwood was formed from portions of the former township of Egg Harbor Township and the town of Easton. The first Europeans to visit what is now Westwood were Native Americans who hunted game in its open fields and swampy areas today. These early explorers did not explore much beyond what they could see or hear because it was considered too dangerous and difficult to travel this far northward into undeveloped territory. In 1795, George Washington crossed the Delaware River on horseback during his final campaign against France and became the first U.S. president with his own presidential palace in Philadelphia – he had been traveling through New Jersey via Egg Harbor Township where he had a farmstead named Mount Vernon (later renamed Mount Airy). The name "Egg Harbor" originated from when European traders used to stop at an estuary called "Hooker's Harbour" on their way upriver to get food for their ships at Gloucester Point on our continent; but no one knows for sure why "Egg Harbor" became associated with that particular stretch of river above Newtown Center (west side). In 1802, Nicholas-Jacques Conte erected a small wooden building near present day Mifflin Street as a post office; it served as such until 1824 when Pennsylvanian John Dickinson took over as Postmaster General due to then-British restrictions on mail service between Great Britain and her colonies in North America It wasn't until 1835 when New Jersey state legislators created Westfield Township based on parts of Egg Harbor Township which lay east of Hackensack Avenue including most of what is now Westwood Village/Easton Borough today’s village center while also incorporating certain sections of Egg Harbor Township including Trumbull Road running through it today’s central business district; all these changes took place without ever having any public meeting where anyone explained what they were doing or how it would affect everyone else involved! In 1830 John Woolf founded Woolworths grocery store in Easton after moving there from Newark following his purchase of an abandoned salt mine there some years earlier – this store later morphed into Rufus Swayne's department store across Broadwalk Avenue from where we stand today back then about 1/4 mile wide! The line still goes down Broadwalk nowadays! Woolworth's family continued operating that store until 1978 before selling it off to Federated Department Stores who completely renovated and enlarged it – creating one of Philly's largest department stores! That event marked the beginningof what would eventually become known as Downtown Philly although many people still refer to Woolworths location as “Olde Towne” even though that store closed operations back in 1978! One interesting note about this time period is that both Woolworths & Federated ran PR campaigns for various upcoming municipal elections throughout Northeast Pennsylvania supporting candidates along with sending out reporters & photographers onto election days just like any other retail business might do!! This type of marketing activity unfortunately continues up till THIS VERY DAY !! As you can imagine these days things are WAY more controlled than they once were so I guess you could say…..the old ways die hard….right? 🙂 But never fear WWP has got your back……..lol

Westwood, New Jersey was founded on October 7, 1688 by the Reverend George Weymouth. The town was named for a wooded area in Middlesex County that once served as its site. The first settler here was John Westwood. The town grew rapidly and soon had two churches and twenty-four homes. On December 12, 1701, the town voted to incorporate as a borough. In 1744, the borough became a township. In 1814, Westwood became part of Bergen County when it was divided into townships. This gave the community more autonomy and allowed it to build schools, pharmacies, and other public buildings. In 1899, Westwood built its first factory - an armory that still stands today - and began to expand its economy with the development of industries such as tanning, papermaking, brewing beer (the first craft brewery in New Jersey), and leather manufacturing. By 1960s WESTWOOD had become one of the most cosmopolitan communities in North America with people from all over Europe living here; however during World War II many residents left for military service or internment camps because of war rationing policies. Today's population is about seventy-five thousand people who live mainly in central westchester county During colonial times there were few settlements in this area due to lack of space and resources available; however by 1700 there were several hundred families living here including some who started smallpox experiments which backfired catastrophically In 1688 Rev George Weymouth moved from England to begin his ministry in this area By 1800 he had formed a church group with others locals Isaac Norris (a Quaker), James Caldwell (a Dutchman) & John Latham who came up with the name "Westwood" The original plat map of what would become Westwood shows only 2 lots: lot 1 being known as “Church Lot” while lot 2 extendedDisclaimer: After much debate between those who wanted religious freedom within our borders & those worried about possible encroachment by outside forces they decided to change both Church Lots into blocks called side streets later becoming avenues which we know today

Westwood was founded in 1788 by Adam West, a landowner and member of the township board. The town was named for one of his home's two hills, "Woden" and "Woodsworth." In 1816, Westwood became part of Trenton Township. In 1828, it became a city.
