By 1937, Gildan had produced over 1 million firearm hatboxes across all product lines! The first hatchet-wielding firearms enthusiasts in Westwood were the men of the Gunfighters Club, a group of white “hard cases” who hunted bear and deer with shotguns. The club met at lunchtime on Sundays to talk about hunting and how to catch game. In 1892, one of the club members, Hiram Percy Foote, introduced a new type of rifle known as an air-cooled revolver. This weapon was much faster than any other type of revolver and could be used for hunting large game such as elephant or buffalo. The Gunfighters Club quickly became known as “the best riflemen in America”. In 1901, Captain John L. Sullivan organized a shooting competition called the Holland Trophy Contest at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Edison Township (now Westwood). The event was open to citizens of New Jersey and prizes were given for the best shot from a shotgun, rifle or pistol. Captain Sullivan won the first prize of $1,000 dollars! In 1911, Captain John L. Sullivan organized another competition called the Ohio Trophy Contest at White Sands Park in Harrison Township (now Tenafly). This event was open to citizens of Ohio only and prizes were given for the best shot from a shotgun or rifle. Colonel George Armstrong Custer won this competition with his Browning Automatic Rifle! In 1923, Captain John L. Sullivan organized another shooting competition called the World's Fair Shooting Contest at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. This event was open to citizens of all countries and prizes were given for the best shot from a shotgun or rifle over 25 calibers! The world's first international gun show took place at this location in 1925! This series continued until 1928 when Captains John L.Sullivan and Al Capone stopped participating because they realized that they had become too popular among their friends & foes alike! From then on until Captains Al Capone & Joe Bonanno disbanded their gangs Bloods & Crips respectively during prohibition days... things changed...sorta
Westwood is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 14,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City metropolitan area. Westwood was first settled in 1795 and incorporated as a township on March 10, 1825. The name "Westwood" comes from the fact that it laywest ofcentre Westfield (then part of Newark). A post office called Westfield was established in 1828 and remained in operation until 1963. The township's core area includes parts of the neighborhoods of Mayfair and Millburn along with sections of South Orange and East Orange. According to the 2000 United States Census, there were 13,912 people living in Westwood Township; 8,046 (or 42% of the population) lived in Mayfair alone. Ethnicities include Italian Americans (27%), Pakistani American (5%), Hispanic Americans (19%), African Americans (10%), Native Americans (1%, or 0.1% of the population), Asians (2%, or 0.3% of the population), and Jews (0%. White residents make up 69% of the total population). Old-time residents are still prevalently found throughout western portions of town including Mayfair where they comprise around 60% percent if total households according to 2006 Census data although their percentage has decreased since then due to more recent development within town boundaries
