This technology would later be adopted by other notable figures including Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, and Neil Armstrong! Westwood, New Jersey is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 25,783 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlantic City metropolitan area. Westwood is located on the southern end of Freehold Township and includes the communities of Allentown, Brookville, Easton, Glen Rock, and Montvale.

In 1870, British scientist Sir John Herschel built the world’s first astronomical telescope using binoculars – he was able to see stars at a far distance and measure their positions accurately. From then on, binocular technology quickly became one of the most important tools in astronomists’ toolboxes.

Westwood was founded by Adam and Rebecca West in 1795. The couple had a farm near what is now Easton, Pennsylvania. They moved to Westwood in 1807 and started the first school there. In 1814, they built the first church in Westwood. The Westwoods were prominent citizens of their town and donated land for a library and park in 1828. They also served as Township Supervisors from 1830-1834 and 1841-1845. The community grew rapidly after World War I when businesses began to open up around the corner from the west side of Route 9A (now known as Summit Avenue). After World War II, development slowed down but still continued on the east side of 9A which became home to many small businesses until it was closed off in the 1960s for redevelopment into apartments and other commercial uses. In 1957, Adam West died at age 93. His wife Rebecca passed away at age 97 in 1978. Today, both families are buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Newark, New Jersey
