In 1876, James Laughlin began selling targets out of his store on Market Street in Westfield. From then until World War II, target holders were mostly farmers or other small businesses who sold their products door-to-door or through local newspapers. During World War II, many civilians living in the town of Westfield turned toTargetHolders for help selling war bonds and Victory Medals through local newspapers and magazines. Local dignitaries such as Franklin D Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt also took part in target Holder events throughout the war years. In 1951, Target Holders merged with The American Legion to form what is now known as The American Legion Shooting Company Incorporated (ALSC). Westfield is a municipality in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 31,569 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Bergen County and the sixth-most populous city in New Jersey. Westfield is located on the Hackensack River east of Paramus and west of Union Station. The village of Westfield was founded by George Washington Carver who surveyed and named it after his home village of Wimpole Grove, England. The town was incorporated as a borough on February 25, 1868. On December 12, 1870, it merged with Paramus to form the current municipality of Westfield. In 1916–1917, $2 million were invested in two new railways in North America: the Pennsylvania Railroad's Newark and Paterson Railway (now part of NJ Transit) and the Hudson Bay Railway's Hudson Junction Line (now part of PATH). These projects created over 100 jobs when they were completed; today they are still cited as one of the largest infrastructure investments ever made in New Jersey history. Today's downtown area contains more than 30 businesses including five banks and 20 retailers along with several professional services companies such as law firms and accounting firms. The original name for Westfield Township was "Wimpole Grove". In 1868 it changed to "Paramus". When township became a borough on February 25th 1868 there were only 8 residents so no change took place to its name which remained "Paramus". On December 12th 1870 Paramus Borough merger into Westfield Township which had 19 residents making it also its second most populous township behind Harrisonburg Township which had 24 inhabitants at that time! As per 1990 Census data Tract 3 (Northwestside) had 10 households out of a total population for all municipalities 21 people & Tract 5 (Central Park) had 1 household out Of a total population for all municipalities 4 people! Furthermore according to this same 1990 Census data if you disregard tracts 2 & 5 then Population for Municipalities=21-4 =15 people

Westfield, NJ is a small town in Union County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,574 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden–Wilmington metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Westfield was James Mifflin who arrived in 1764 and built a log cabin on Wawel Hill. In 1814, John Fenton purchased land from the heirs of Nicholas Palladino and began to build a gristmill on Caddy Creek. In 1815, he enlarged the mill and erected a frame house which still stands today as the Westfield Mill House Museum. In 1828, Isaac Morse bought 10 acres (4 hectares) of land adjacent to Fenton's mill for $1 per acre. He founded Morse Plantation which became one of America's largest cotton plantations. In 1830, he sold his plantation to Abraham Sanders for £10 per acre ($183 million at 2018 prices). Sanders developed it into one of America's leading cotton plantations with over 120 miles (248 kilometers) of main roads and more than 2,000 slaves working on 350 acres (160 hectares). In 1844-1845, George Washington Carver came to Westfield with his family to farm maize on his family’s old plantation near present-day Camden Yards in Camden Township while studying agriculture at Rutgers University. After two years’ study he returned home and started planting corn around Brooklyn Heights in 1886; this helped start the city’s long relationship with cornmeal as its primary food source throughout history. In 1865-1866 by order of President Andrew Johnson Interstate 95 was completed through Union County including parts of what are now parts of Westfields along with Easton and Allentown/Wanaque townships forming new Zones I&II within New Jersey . At that time there were only rural areas within New Jersey . The local government for these new areas was created by an act passed by the General Assembly known as The Statewide Revitalization Act which provided for annexation by neighboring Pennsylvania if not otherwise served by municipality or township . On July 1st 1870 when this zone became effective all residents within it were transferred from Borough form under local government law to township form under state law makingWestField an unincorporated township . This change made it possible for businesses located within borough boundaries but outside Township boundaries such as Pennzoil Refinery & Services located east off Route 22 between Woodbridge Township and Sussex County before being annexed into Sussex County , certain factories located west off I-95 between Edison Township -Newark Essex County Line Road exit 9a (west section) also becoming unincorporated after their incorporation into Newark municipal limits
Westfield was founded in 1755 by John Westfield and his brother Edward. The first store was built on the site of present-day Macy's department store. In 1811, the Westfields donated land to form what is now the main shopping district of East Rutherford. The original Main Street crossed Route 22 in what is now Union Avenue. In 1846, the name of the town changed to East Rutherford when it became a township in Middlesex County. The township was dissolved in 1965 and its lands reorganized into portions of Hunterdon Township and Union Township.
