In 1868, East Orange applied for incorporation as well but was refused due to its smaller population size (East Orange only had 1,000 residents). In response to this decision, East Orange merged with West Van Horn into one municipality called "New Brunswick". This merger led to increased competition between the two municipalities for jobs and growth stopped or slowed down in each municipality until 1970 when they united again under the name "Middlesex County" as part of a state consolidation plan that also absorbed Camden and Paterson into New Jersey. Since joining forces with neighboring townships during those early years of countyhood (the early 1960s), both Bethlehem Township (northwest of Old Bridge) and Lawrence Township (southwest of Newark) have waged successful campaigns to obtain recognition as independent municipalities within Middlesex County proper - ultimately resulting in their incorporation into adjacent counties during the 1990s without ever achieving full status as municipalities within Middlesex County itself until 2013 when they finally regained official status under the new nickname "Westford Township." Aided by this effort - together totaling more than $160 million dollars over 10 years - Lawrence Township has made significant strides towards becoming an affiliate municipality which will eventually comprise all or nearly all of central Bucks COUNTY while Bethlehem Township remains committed to efforts to achieve full membership within Sussex COUNTY; despite predictions by some municipal politicians that full annexation would occur quickly following Christie's reelection victory in 2014 should she be reelected governor; however no such annexation has yet occurred either through official motions or legislation since Christie took office. Today's downtown area contains several large shopping malls along Route 9 including Macy's/Bridgewater Mall (opened in 1984), Sears/Granite Place Mall (opened in 1985), JCPenney/Sears Fifth Avenue Mall (opened December 15th 1984), Lord & Taylor locations at Hudson Yards mall southwark across from Penn Station on Raritan riverfront...[and] anchor stores includes Applebees,[br] Barnes & Noble,[citation needed], Dunkin' Donuts,[dubious], Subway[e], Starbucks,[f] KFC[g], Domino’s Pizza[h], Papa John’s Pizza[i],[j],[k],[l]]...In addition there are numerous small businesses located throughout downtown such as hair salons/spas,[m]; dog walking services; tailors; daycare providers; beauty supply stores; wine retailers; Chinese restaurant(s); pharmacies... [and] many medium sized businesses such as CVS Pharmacy[]...residence halls include Southwestern Regional High School which serves grades 8-12 before moving onto State College Prepatory School next door which serve grades 13-16 According to 2015 Census data released by NJ Transit., if registered commuters Include job seekers who work long hours outside commuting hours: out-of-state commuters working 50+ hours total per week = 21%, local commuters working 30+ hours total per week = 7%
