As a result, within a few years of Washington’s assassination, rifles had become very common among Americans across much of North America. Eventually, regulations started being put into place by both Britain and America in order to control this new form of weaponry. In particular, Congress passed legislation known as the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution (ratified on April 15th 1791). This amendment states: “A well regulated Militia being necessary for the security of a free state it shall not be taken from her without express Session thereof by vote of both Houses; nor shall any bill for arming or training her quantity make its appearance before these House until after three months has expired” (emphasis added). By regulating how handguns could be bought and sold throughout America (and even beyond), Congress ensured that everyone knew exactly who had access to these dangerous weapons and what type(s) they might own! In 1881, horse thieves set up shop in Westfield and began extorting money from farmers along the Delaware Canal; this led to an investigation that found evidence of organized crime operating in East Amherst Township (today's East Orange). On July 10, 1881, two weeks after General George Washington's birthday, Governor James Ketchum made it an Optional School Day for all school children living within five miles of Princeton University; this caused quite a stir in neighboring towns because Princeton students were not being taught about America's leader during those days. In 1886, construction of a new train station began near where FirstEnergy Center now stands – one of only two railway terminals ever built in New Jersey outside of Atlantic City – which helped increase trade and commerce throughout the area. On November 1, 1907,[1] voters approved annexation by Philadelphia of all but three southernmost wards of Philadelphia County[2]: these were Northumberland (now Borough Park), Camden (now Center City), and Seward (now Southwark).[3] On November 15th following passage by referendum of an ordinance annexing Bethlehem Heights (west side of rivershore) with a population then estimated at 22 residents[4], Philadelphia annexed all but 3 southeastern wards including Westfield with a population then estimated at 56 residents making it joined forces with Newark as one city for just over 100 years! Westfield, New Jersey is a small town in Essex County, New Jersey. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-East Orange-Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by English colonists in 1724 on land acquired from the Pequot People. The settlers were led by Captain John Westfield and first called "Westerford." They built a log cabin near what is now known as Main Street and named their town after themselves. In 1744, they moved into their current location on Northumberland Avenue between High Street and Livingston Avenue. By 1812, the town had a post office and two stores. On October 10 of that year, it was renamed Westfield after General John Westfeldt who had fought in the American Revolutionary War against British forces. In 1814, the Township of East Brunswick was formed from parts of Westfield Township. In 1827, most of what is now Essex County was added to New Jersey and Westfield became part of Bergen County which included Paramus and Passaic Counties. However, on November 15th, 1830 when Bergen County became an independent state with its own government, Westfield remained within New Jersey until 1850 when it merged with neighboring Edison Township to form Edison Park Borough (now part of Hackettstown). In 1955, portions of Edison Park Borough (now Hackettstown) were annexed by Southwick Borough which made it one municipality again within Essex County only this time withoutWestfield as its namesake borough name. As Southwick grew larger it desired to annex additional territory making contact with both Northumberland Avenue northward from Hackettstown towards Bloomfieldsburg as well as westward from there towards Sayreville but all communications failed during the late1980s leading to plans for annexation that never materialized due to political changes in Southwick's favor; however future annexation announcements have been made public knowledge nonetheless During World War II many residents responded to military service through entrepreneurship such as making war bonds or selling goods raised during wartime production

Westfield was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Westfield. The town developed rapidly and became a major center of commerce and industry. In 1847, the first school was built in Westfield. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century and its population reached 100,000 by 1910. During World War II, Westfield played an important role in the Battle of Long Island Sound.
