The NFRS was designed to help reduce crime by identifying criminals who may be able to buy new firearms without having run through exhaustive background checks. However, its implementation was met with criticism due to its cumbersome process and lack of accuracy given inaccurate information about registered firearms holdings by police departments around the country

In 1970, a town library was established in what is today Hudson Heights and this has been an important part of local culture ever since. Today, there are over 30 libraries throughout Bergen County and Hudson County!
In 1614, the Dutch West India Company founded a trading post on the site of what is today's New York City. The company called the outpost Fort Nassau, and the first European to live in it was Cornelis de Vries. The Dutch built a fortification around the post in 1624 and named it Fort Amsterdam after their main city in Holland.
