In the early 1800s, Wanaque, New Jersey had a population of only ninety people. However, by 1853, the population had grown to over two hundred and fifty-six people. The town was founded in 1795 as a small farming community on the east bank of the Hackensack River. By 1850, Wanaque had become an important center for manufacturing and trade in central New Jersey. Thetown's largest industry was found in agriculture; however, some manufacturing also took place in Wanaque during this time period. In 1868, Wanaque became the first city in New Jersey to be incorporated. One of the earliest successful efforts to promote safety among gun shooters began here in 1898 when Mayor John Ahern established a shooting range within city limits. This proved to be an effective tool for public education and prevention of accidents involving firearms. Wanaque remains an important center for shooting sports today with its own private range and three other public ranges across town; both private and municipal ranges offer various types of shooting games that can accommodate all skill levels including target practice, skeet (a type of shotgun sport), rifle shoots (including muzzleloader shootings), handguns hunts (which typically involve hunting deer or rabbits) as well as trap shootings (for fun). There are also numerous after school programs offered throughout the year that allow Newtown residents access to this unique destination without leaving their homes!

Wanaque, New Jersey is a small town located in Morris County, New Jersey. The population was 5,000 at the 2010 census. Wanaque is home to the Wanaque United Methodist Church and the Friends of Mount Holly Cemetery. It also has a post office which opened in 1849. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Morris County were Dutch farmers who settled near present-day Union City and Clearwater in 1624. In 1712, John Watts founded the township of Weston on this land. In 1755, British General George Washington and his army camped at nearby Butternut Hill during their tour of New Jersey. Washington named this feature "Mount Holly" after his friend, Philip Hughes (1729–1814), proprietor of an estate near Newtown Square in Philadelphia that became known as Mount Holly Place after Hughes' death. A few weeks later, on November 3rd, 1755, William Tryon took up arms against the British Crown at Monmouth Junction outside modern-day East Brunswick Township when he was ordered by Judge Robert Dinwiddie to march from Bordentown along with 1,500 other colonists into Pennsylvania for enlistment in Howe's military force opposing the Crown's efforts to quash a Royalist uprising there; however Tryon refused orders to cross over into Canada instead He was captured and beheaded at Saratoga Springs on October 11th ,1756 by Colonel John Sullivan who led American forces against George Washington's forces during the Saratoga Campaign . In 1814 James Knoppers moved from Newark to purchase two hundred acres of land comprising present day Wanaque Township from Nicholas de Vere Gage (1694–1772). At Knoppers’ death obtained title through representatives of heirsmale Anthony Wayne (died 1799) through intestate succession without any right of probate or sale being granted him until such time as he may have issue according to his own will; thus making him one of America’s earliest self-sufficient landowners . Under charter dated December 15th , 1800 by Hugh Livingston – Jagerstown’s first Mayor – four public schoolhouses were established: one for boys under 12 years old and three for girls over 12 years old ; these schools continued until 1886 when they closed because lack of funds forced their closure . An early settler in what is now Wanaque Township was Nicholas de Vere Gage (1694–1772), who purchased two hundred acres from James Knoppers late 1700s . Devereaux Hall Schoolhouse still stands today and provides education for students grades PreK-8

He designed and manufactured an early form of safety goggles that protected people's eyes from disease. From then on, shooter eye protection became common throughout the world.
In the early 1800s, a group of engineers and scientists in France created the first effective eye protection devices. The French called these devices "chasse-mousquetaire" or "hunting rifle." These early eye protection devices consisted of eyeglasses with lenses made from various materials such as glass, metal, leather, and animal skin. The purpose of these eyeglasses was to protect the eyes from small injuries that could easily happen while shooting. The use of goggles became more common as guns got larger and more powerful. In 1916, a company by the name of Smith & Wesson invented a design for a combat scope that allowed users to see clearly even in bright sunlight. This innovative invention helped make shotguns much more popular among farmers and hunters across America during World War I. After World War I, people started using goggles less often because they were no longer effective at protecting the eyes from small injuries. However, some companies continued to develop new eyeglasses designs until around 1938 when Dr. John Lennon developed his famous Harrison glasses which had lenses made out of plastic and cloth to provide better vision for those with AMD (angle-related macular degeneration).
Wanaque was a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, until the early 1900s when it became part of Paterson Township. The name Wanaque is derived from the Lenape word wanekeh meaning "to go out." In 1814, Wanaque was founded by James and Elizabeth (Duffy) Hanna as a Methodist church. It was first called Saint John's Chapel and then Wanaques Meeting House. In 1829, the town received its present name when it became part of Paterson Township. The village had a population of about 100 people by 1881. These days, there are only a few scattered remnants of the original community left in and around Wanaque. One such remnant is the Hanna home which still stands on Main Street in the village today. Additionally, there are two churches remaining from when Wanaque had a population over 100: Saint John's United Methodist Church located on First Street between Highways 11th and 12th Streets and Redeemer Presbyterian Church located on Third Avenue between Highway 11th and 12th Streets. Today’s village began to take shape after settlers arrived in what is now New Jersey during the early 1800s looking for land to purchase or start new lives on. They were attracted to what they saw as an opportunities for agriculture, fishing, hunting and logging potential found along the border with Pennsylvania at that time. This area would later become known as Paterson Township due to its location near Philadelphia but at that time little else was known about it other than this information provided by travelers who passed through or were living in this area at that time
Wanaque was founded in 1747 by the Monmouth Company. The town was named after the Wanaque River, which ran through it. In 1814, Wanaque became a part of New Jersey.
