One such company was Smith & Wesson, who created what is now known as an open rear sight for their revolvers in 1875. Open rear sights allowed users to adjust elevation (the angle at which the weapon can be aimed) without having to remove the entire barrel from service. This development led to increased accuracy and safety when using handguns, and also helped make them more popular among law enforcement officers and other self-defense enthusiasts around the world. Open rear sights continued to be popular into World War II when they became necessary for rifles equipped with bipod stocks and other off-hand shooting techniques. during World War II, many American manufacturers switched over from round butt ammunition types (such as .22 LR) to centerfire cartridges like .308 Winchester which offered greater power and Accuracy compared to rounds fired from muzzle loading pistols or revolvers using original roundbutt ammunition types

Gun sights history in Wanaque, New Jersey began with the creation of the first modern gun sights by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his partners in 1795. The company was known as Nicholas-Jacques Conte and Son. In 1817, Nicholas-Jacques Conte passed away, and his sons continued to make the products. In 1867, the company changed its name to Winchester Repeating Arms Company. By 1899, Winchester had become one of the largest firearms manufacturers in the United States. In 1903, Winchester introduced a new line of target rifles called Model 100s which were extremely successful. The Model 100s were eventually replaced by more advanced models such as Model 1100s and Model 1911s.
Wanaque is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 Census. Wanaque was established on May 12, 1885 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. It is located in the North Jersey Plain and is named for George Washington Wanamaker. Wanaque is one of eight townships in Middlesex County and was formed on April 14, 1911 from portions of Sayre Township. The township had a total population of 4,711 as of the 2010 census. Wanaque is based on a grant from President James K. Polk to Nicholas Wanamaker to establish "a town near Philadelphia". In 1916, Wanaque became part of Rahway Township when that township was divided into two parts along racial lines. On December 6, 1956, portions of Wanaque were combined with portions of Teaneck to form another borough called Teaneck-Wanaquebec which included Rahway and Westwood Village within its boundaries

Wanaque is a town in New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Newark metropolitan area. Wanaque is located on the southern border of Camden County and is bordered by Gloucester Township to the east, Mount Olivet Borough to the west, and Edison Township to the north. According to the United States Census Bureau, Wanaque has a total area of 3.5 square miles (10 km²), all of it land. The first Europeans who set foot in what is now Wanaque were Dutch Protestants from Amsterdam who arrived in 1674. They named their new settlement West Orange after their original home in Holland located east of where present-day Camden and Newark are today. In 1703 John Morin built a cabin on what became known as North Avenue in what is now South Brunswick Township; this was later acquired by Benjamin Franklin who called it Philadelphia before moving it to his plantation near Dover Beach NJ in 1764. By 1800, there were 4 settlements within present-day Wanaque: Philadelphia, Easton (now Bethlehem), Wilmington (now Wrightstown) and Plantationville (now Burlington). A post office was established here April 7th 1809 under the name "West Orange". In 1824 Englishman John Trimble settled here with his family following his purchase of an estate along Coastal Road from James Monaghan interests that included much patented land including portions of current Camden County as well as areas now being part of Gloucester Township and Mount Olivet Borough inclusive Two years later he erected a frame house which still stands on Broad Street which served as headquarters for many years for Trimble's Creek Coal Company until finally moved out into its own building at 5th & Market Streets some time after 1860 when that company merged with other coal companies forming what would eventually become Penn Central Railroad Unfortunately damage done during fire October 6th 1906 destroyed most if not all structures associated with both businesses including house also machinery therein resulting in loss estimated at $100K The Trimble House still stands today across from Independence Mall off 5th Street just south of Terminal Ave looking back over Delaware River towards Philly skyline
Wanaque was founded in 1729 by John Armstrong. It was added to the New Jersey colony in 1664, and became a town in 1729. The first settler in Wanaque was Captain David Williamson.
