The history of gun barrels in Wanaque, New Jersey goes back to 1868. That year, the first revolver in the township was manufactured by George P. Smith and Sons. pistol barrels were made from 8-inch to .45 caliber and were used for target shooting and hunting. In 1898, a new armory was built in Wanaque and began using rifle barrels for military purposes. The following year, a shotgun factory was established in the township and barrels became available for that type of firearm as well. Barrels are still used today to produce shotguns of all types.
Wanaque, NJ is a town located in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. Wanaque is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. The first settler in what is now Wanaque Township was Abraham Lincoln who purchased land from the Lenape in 1780. In 1814 Nicholas D’Angelo bought 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of township from John Pappas and filed a plat with the municipality on July 12th of that year. The first street in what is now Wanaque Township was named after Nicholas D’Angelo – Lombard Street today. On February 15th, 1821, Samuel French erected the first schoolhouse in what is now Wanaque Township which he called “School House Ford” on his farm east of present day Highway 287 and west of School Road 527 southwest of present day Fort Johnson Road. It was not until 1830 that a second schoolhouse also called “School House Ford” was erected on property adjoining Samuel French's farm northwest of present day Highway 287 and east of School Road 527. This second schoolhouse remained operational until it burned down around 1840 according to one source however another source reports that it may have been destroyed by Indians during the American Revolutionary War as it could be seen standing alone across from Fort Johnson Road just north of wherepresent-day Highway 287 meets School Road 527 today when touring Wanaque Township Historic District sites in October 2009. Wanaque is a community in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 4,755 at the 2010 census. Wanaque is located on the southern bank of the Raritan River. The first settler in what is now Wanaque was Nicholas Allaire who arrived in 1772 and took up land that now includes parts of present-day Wanaque and East Brunswick Township. In 1801, John P. French built a gristmill on the river near where it currently stands and started farming goods to sell downstream to other settlers in New Brunswick and Middlesex County. In 1814, three brothers named Higginson bought 640 acres (250 ha) of land from Nicholas Allaire for $5 per acre ($24 total). This area became known as "Higginson's Landing" because their father had acquired it from a man named Hugh Higginson several years earlier. The early settlers here enjoyed access to fresh water from the Raritan River and good soil for farming due to its fertility. They also founded churches and schools in this area which continue to be active today. In 1821, Amos Sanford donated 1,000 acres (500 ha) of land south of where Wanaque now sits to form what would become West Orange Township; this area eventually became part of Camden County too. In 1830, Edwin Mosely donated an additional 1,000 acres (500 ha) towards building a town on the site – finally making Wanaque an official municipality on April 10th, 1830! As new arrivals began arriving into what is now Middlesex County during the 19th century they quickly realized that they needed more than just farmland for themselves – they needed homes too! On November 3rd, 1855, Revolver John Gurney established "Gurney's Hope", or Gurney's Home Village as it came originally called – one of America’s earliest subdivisions specifically designed for immigrants who desired single-family homes rather than rentals or barracks like those common at that time! This subdivision pattern continued through much of 20th century until larger towns such as Newark or Paterson became popular after World War II made housing available for all across America - again proving how important it was for immigrants to have their own place within society! During World War II many people from New Jersey decided not only did they want to help support their country but also wanted some relief too; so when President Franklin D Roosevelt announced his plan in 1944 called “Presidential Plan No. 11″ many people were thrilled because this offered cash awards up to $30000 depending on your activity during your war service! Unfortunately however due largely to politics at home things didn’t really change much until after VE Day when most Americans received payments only if they volunteered or served instead of actually doing anything! After World War II ended there were lots of changes taking place throughout New Jersey including suburbanization which happened as people started moving away from cities towards rural areas – again proving that Families mattered more than ever before!! Today we can see many examples of this throughout our state with municipalities such as Edison having 2 million (+/- ) residents while Mercer has over 50000 (+/- ) residents!!!!! The first Europeans to visit Wanaque were Dutch farmers in 1621. They named the place "Wanaque" after a large tree they found there. The first European settler was John Killian, who arrived in 1673. From him, the town received its name of Killianstown. The first school was operated by the Dutch in 1701 and the first church was built in 1712. In 1818, Wanaque became a borough and then a city in 1872.
