Wallington, New Jersey is a town in Cumberland County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 11,898 at the 2010 census. The area now known as Wallington was part of Gloucester County until it was merged into Middlesex County on November 3, 1873. The first optical instruments in Wallington were made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and Benjamin Franklin Watson in 1795. In 1839, John Crouse bought land in what is today Wallington from Robert Morris for $1 million dollars to build the first purpose-built optical laboratory and observatory in North America. In 1850–1851, WM Cooke built a second purpose-built observatory and laboratory on what is now named Park Avenue in Wallington Township. It was used both for exploring the heavens andtelescoping American territory during the Mexican–American War (1846–48). In 1892–1893, Union College professor Haverford graduate Alfred Payson joined with fellow professors James Keeler and Reuben Goldthwaite to form an amateur astronomical society that later became known as "The American Association of University astronomers". their goal was to promote astronomy throughout America by holding meetings and exhibiting their equipment to various groups of people interested in studying the sky. They also constructed a telescope series called "Kepler's Fifth Planet" which featured 12 telescopes including one designed by Payson himself using materials he had acquired from Dutch traders living on Long Island who had been smuggling glassware across the ocean without getting caught. In 1903 they erected a new building on campus which served as their headquarters until 1948 when they moved to Princeton University's Radcliffe Observatory where they remain today. In 1924 local businessman Julius Rosenwald donated land adjacent to his former textile mill property for use as an experimental station for Hughes Aircraft Company's Aerial Research Laboratory located there until its closure in 1969;[5] this event led directly to the founding of Rutgers University's Institute of Aeronautics & Astronomy (IIA) which still uses much of that same property today![6] Another early supporter of optics here was banker/politician Samuel Wertheim whose department store Wertheim’s carried two types of lenses – one blackmarketed imported from Russia while another type produced locally by Abraham Lincoln Mintz & Co.; this type is still being manufactured today by Epson Corporation.[7] Most notably though,[8][9][10][11][12] Professor Hermann Weyl played an important role helping develop radio astronomy techniques during World War II while working at IIA; prior to that he had worked at Bell Labs developing transmitters and receivers.[13] Today IIA operates four separate research divisions: Radio Science Division (responsible for antenna engineering), Optical Physics Division (responsible for lasers and light bulbs), Astrophysics Division (responsible for astrophysical studies), Andromedes Division (responsible for solar system studies)[14],[15] While originally housed within IIA’s Physical Sciences Complex on Broadway between Murray Street and Livingston Avenue,[16] its current location inside Rutgers’ main Campus buildings allows us more opportunitiesto expand our research capabilities beyond those typically available at universities with their single research departments!

Wallington is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,519 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from Wallington Township in Middlesex County. The first European settlers arrived in 1764 and were led by Colonel John Wallington who purchased land from the Lenape Tribe. He named his new township after himself and laid out a square block consisting of five lots. In 1834, he donated land to make up what is now the eastern border of Wallington Township and created a second square block which included his original home lot as well as part of what is now West Orange. In 1868, he made an additional donation to create east side of Wallington Township which became known as East Orange. In 1881, when Mercer County was organized, Wallington was included within it and its name changed to Mercer Heights Borough. On May 15th of that year, borough officials voted to change its name back to Wallington because they felt it more accurately reflected the community’s location on Route 22 between Newark Liberty International Airport and Trenton/Ewing Airport (now know as Edison). The change took effect on July 1st, 1981. As America developed into an increasingly industrial society during the early 20th century, businesses began moving away from downtowns towards larger facilities in east End or northside neighborhoods such as Old West Side andahtona Park along Route 202; this movement helped contribute to increased traffic congestion around town center during peak hours but also caused greater residential growth around Routes 22nd Avenue southward from Broadway Junction (formerly Fourth Street) towards South Amboy Road with its namesake park located adjacent thereto becoming one of NJ's most popular suburban destinations for families during this time period - much like today's areas surrounding airports such as SoHo or Midtown Manhattan - makingWallINGTON one of NJ's most vibrant municipalities for residents seeking opportunities for economic development both within their own municipality boundaries as well as beyond them into other states or counties throughout this era!
