Wallington is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,512 at the 2010 census. Wallington is part of the Camden–Newark metropolitan area. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Wallington in 1784. They were farmers who had moved from Rhode Island and Connecticut. The name "Wallington" was derived from one of these early settlers, John Wallingford. In 1814, Henry Clay helped to found the borough of Camden and saw that it would be important for trade with Philadelphia and other cities in the states to the south. He wanted to create a port on Cherry Hill Creek so that goods could be shipped upriver and reach markets in New York City and Pennsylvania without having to go through Newark or Jersey City. So he donated land for a wharf on Cherry Hill Creek which became known as Clay Harbor. This development led to the town's growth and today's downtown section was built on land once used by Clay Harbor (the wharf still exists). In 1838, when James Buchanan was elected president, he decided that Wilmington should become the capital of America because Philadelphia was too populous and its government too complex for an American city like Delaware’s highly developed business district – though Washington D.C., Baltimore Md., Richmond Va., Staunton Va., Burlington Vt., Norfolk Va./ Suffolk N.[1] When Buchanan took office his first order of business was to move the capital from Wilmington toWashington D.C.–an event which has been called “perhaps [the] most famous transfer in American history”[2]. Buchanan also founded University Park within Wallington boundaries in 1839 as an agricultural college for students from rural areas near Delaware’s ports; it became Rutgers University later that year. Rutgers College closed its doors during World War II but reopened after the war as Saint Francis University; it merged with Essex County College (now Seton Hall) in 1978 to form Rowan University; then-Governor Christine Whitman transferred Rutgers College's assets into Seton Hall upon her appointment as governor in 1984; Rutgers then merged with William Paterson Universities Incorporated (WPUNI) – now part of StateUniversityof NewJERSEY – creating Rowan University Polytechnic Institute which continues education operations today while WPUNI operates as both an autonomous public university system within NJSU[3]. Today Wallington is home to many businesses including pharmaceutical company Biogen Idec Pharmaceuticals LLC,[4], software maker Salesforce Corporation,[5][6] automotive manufacturer Maserati Chrysler Group North America LLC,[7][8][9] printing company JWT Printing Solutions,[10][11], and health food store magoosh.[12][13] It also features a large retail mall anchored by Macy's Department Store, Nordstrom Rack & More, Sears department stores etc.; three high school districts: Hunterdon Hills Public School District No 1,[14], Monmouth Township Public Schools District No 2,[15],[16]), Morris Plains High School District No 3[17]; and West Orange High School District No 4.[18]. The Town provides law enforcement services through two police departments: The Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Office located just outside of town along Route 46 while there are also special events/police precincts established within each township such as Special Events Unit #1 responsible for response times related matters surrounding dances/festivals etc.; emergency responders include firefighters/rescue squads dispatched via Bell Helicopter helicopter Squadron One providing mutual aid during natural disasters such as hurricanes Sandy or Irene while also being able to provide coverage during scheduled events such as funerals etc Additionally emergency services are provided by LifeFlight Services throughout Greater New Jersey utilizing helicopters flown by private property owners providing medical evacuations statewide As well Brick Township Police Department who provide emergency response services for personal injury incidents

Wallington, NJ was once a small town located in Middlesex County. It was first settled in the early 1800s and quickly became one of the most important agricultural towns in New Jersey. Wallington was also an important cultural center during its time. The town had a large library, several theaters, and many talented musicians. In the 1920s, Wallington experienced heavy population loss due to World War I and World War II. However, it regained some of its lost population after both wars. Today, Wallington is an important community with a rich history that is still being lived today.
Wallington was founded in 1724 by Nicholas Wallington and his wife, Sarah. The town was named for Nicholas' father, who had purchased a lot in the area from the Lenape Native Americans. Wallington became an important center of trade and commerce during the early years of American colonization. In 1814, the town was burned to the ground by Indian insurgents during a conflict over control of a local salt lick. Despite this loss, Wallington continued to grow as a commercial and cultural center until the late 19th century. In 1892, wallingtons merged with neighboring Township of Freehold to form what is now Monmouth County.
