Wallington is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now comprising Wallington was first settled by English colonists in 1682 as part of the Monmouth Township line. On July 1, 1784, the township became incorporated as Wallington Township and remained so until 1955 when it became an unincorporated borough within Middlesex County. In 1820, a post office called "Wallingford" was established in what is now Wallington Township and remained in operation until 1898. The name "Wallingford" may be derived from one of three places where British troops had been quartered during the Revolutionary War: "Wallingford on Thames", "Westwall (now West Hackensack)", or even "Waterloo". According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough had a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2010, there were 2,569 people living in Wallington Borough who were age 25 and over. The population density was 611 people per square mile (253/km²). There were 1,827 housing units at an average densityof 294/sq mi (124/km²). The racial makeup of Wallington Borough was 96% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 1% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3% of the population.

Wallington was a small town in the Delaware Valley region of New Jersey, United States, on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. It had a population of 1,912 as of 2010. Wallington was first settled by Germans and English in 1759. The Dutch also arrived in what is now Wallington in 1675. The town's name comes from Welsh warrior Seumaswalli (aka John Wall) who fought against Spanish forces at the Battle of Monmouth on July 4, 1676. The first settler in what is now Wallington was Johann Gottfried Wilhelm von Bellgen who built his house on present-day Park Road in 1759. Other early settlers included Simon Kapp and Jacob Kapp Jr., both natives of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In 1833, John Husted purchased land around modern-day Wallington from Nicholas Ourouvre for $2,000 (). In 1851, when New Jersey became an independent state, Wallington incorporated as a village under the name "Wallington." On May 12th 1860 it became part of Sussex County when that county was created from parts of Middlesex and Essex Counties. By 1870 it counted 581 residents; however by 1880 its population had increased to 1,193 due to immigration from eastern Europe including Poles and Slovaks. On November 8th 1890 two small fires destroyed most or all of the buildings on Center Street between Second and Third Streets which were then rebuilt using logs with a corrugated iron roof following a three day effort by local citizens with assistance from the Morris County Volunteer Fire Company #1 led by Captain John Cavanaugh (). This event served as an inspiration for later efforts to rebuild communities following natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy which hit New York City on October 29th 2012. This slideshow requires JavaScript. On December 5th 1892 Charles Waugh moved into his house on Academy Avenue opposite today's High School after purchasing land from Drury & Jewett Real Estate Co.. At first he only raised chickens but soon began selling eggs for $1 each at various locations around town before starting his own grocery store that operated until 1975 called The Waugh Store (now known as Publick House). Prior to this point there were no retail stores located within walking distance outside the limits set by developers back then; this has since changed with several new development areas opening up near High School which cause gridlock during peak hours Considerable progress has been made recently towards reopening North Market Street between 2nd Ave/Park Rd and 3rd Ave/Washington St – currently closed due to construction + some very large trucks parking lot!
