Vineland, New Jersey is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 15,898 at the 2010 census. Vineland is located on the Vineland-Troy Township line. The township was formed on February 14, 1820, from parts of Troy and Perth Amboy townships. The first post office in Vineland was opened in 1824. It closed on October 16, 1971. The village of Vineland was founded by Dutch settlers at the junction of the rivers Vernon and Monmouth in 1775 as a trading post for their trade with the British colonies in North America. In 1830, it became an incorporated village under English law with a Mayor and Aldermen elected by residents qualified through knowledge or experience in bookkeeping or agriculture; however this system did not last long because it conflicted with English notions of municipal autonomy which were developed during the American Revolution. On December 14, 1834, Vineland incorporation as a borough resulted from petition by its citizens to allow them greater self-government than that granted to other municipalities within Morris County. The first Borough Council consisted of five members who were appointed by Governor Andrew Johnson; one member represented each ward and two councilors supervised all aspects of life within their district (including street cleaning and lighting). In 1938 Borough Council eliminated wards while continuing to operate under mayoral authority; however this system did not last long because there were too many changes in county government during World War II which caused more duplication among municipalities than necessary for effective governance. In 1951 Borough Council adopted a plan for consolidation of all municipalities into one large entity known as "Morris County" with an initial population of 1015; however this proposal failed to gain support from either the citizenry or City Hall due to concerns about potential encroachment on civil liberties such as free speech rights and zoning regulations being changed without proper public input which would have affected most rural constituents living outside Morristown and Parsippany areas; furthermore many people thought that larger municipalities would be less efficient due to their size having difficulty coordinating services effectively while larger cities could afford better facilities such as police departments etc.; finally upon expiration of three years without any new plans being made after pressure from City Hall officials Morris County voted 3-0 against merger resulting in what has come to be known as "The Battle Of The Bergen". Since then several small towns have merged with Vineland including Westfield (1992), Summit (1995), Dumont (1996), Plainfield (1998)Paramus (1998), Edison Park/Paterson Eastside(2002) Hasbrouck Heights(2004) Ridgewood Hills(2006) Maywood Heights(2008) Caldwells Plains(2010). Finally Asbury Park had its own referendum asking for annexation into Morris County but lost 54% majority against doing so winning only 9 out of 144 precincts across fourteen boroughs making it difficult for any future municipality proposals going forward which leaves township governments feelingoids about whether they should merge with neighboring communities given that they are essentially powerless when it comes time for decisions about services like zoning or budgets - something that has been growing more prevalent over time despite efforts by both Township leaders and Community Development Director Dan Rozenbloom to address this issue head on since his appointment six years ago. Municipalities feel like they are competing against themselves rather than working together towards common goals instead creating stability within their communities while also giving back some form of economic development boost thereby increasing overall community morale

The city grew quickly due to its location on Lake Michigan close to other industrial centers such as Philadelphia and Detroit. In 1898, Vineland became one of 10 townships within newly formed Union County when it was split off from Middlesex and Sussex counties. On April 15, 1916, World War I began with Germany invaded Belgium and France; this led to increased trade between America and Europe which made Vineland an importantectorto economic development in what would become known as "the Great Lakes region". That same year saw the opening dayof Atlantic City's first casino; this event helped further fuel local economic growth while also attracting tourists from around America who flockedto see what they called "the great white age".
