Gun lights have a long and varied history in Vineland, New Jersey. Many people may not know that the town was once home to an arsenal of firearms, including dozens of cannons and pistols. The arsenal, which was located on Main Street between Walnut and Orange Streets, was used by both the military and law enforcement during the 1800s. Gun lights were also used as signaling devices in early days of aviation. In 1901, a group of individuals led by John A. Fenton purchased the old armory property on Main Street. They continued to use it as their gun light arsenal until 1922. At that time, they decided to close down the facility because it no longer functioned safely or efficiently. However, parts of the building still stand today and are open to visitors for tours every other month from 9am-4pm.

Vineland is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,857 at the 2010 census. Vineland is located on the border of Middlesex and Union Counties. It is bordered by the towns of Allentown and Plainsboro to the southwest, Newark to the northwest, East Brunswick Township to the northeast, and Edison to the east. The community was founded in 1788 as Westville by brothers John and Peter Vineland. The name "Westville" originated from its location on Meadow Brook between Vineland Creek and White Marsh lojds. In 1821, when Morristown was incorporated as a village, Westville became part of Morristown. In 1828 it again became a separate township; however, it merged with East Brunswick Township on April 14th of that year to form what is now Vineland Township. On May 9th of that year (1829), Morristown officials designated Westville as headquarters for their new proposed township government; this designation remains today as an official distinction between Vineland Township and neighboring East Brunswick Township. The first post office opened in Vineland on July 6th of 1829 (the date still remains unchanged). The first settler in what is now Vineland was Isaac Weisman who arrived in 1788 from Germany via Dover Beach (). Weisman built his house near present day Indian Head Road close to where he later married into a family whose descendants still live there today: Mrs Clara Weisman Pappas (née DeCoster) & Mr John Weisman Jr.). On July 4th of 1830 (the day after independence was gained from Great Britain), local residents erected an American flagpole atop Mount Zion Congregational Church which stood until 1902 when it was destroyed by fire.. On October 3rd 1865 (six days after Abraham Lincoln's assassination), local residents raised a large Confederate battle Banner over Meeting House Hill during a military engagement between Union forcesand Confederate troops known as Battle Of Gettysburg (). This banner still stands today adjacent to South Mountain Avenue off Route 202 outside of Vineland proper.. In 1892 Responding to increasing tax rates levied by Morris County through assessment danftage laws passed by lawmakers at the state level- instead of raising taxes traditional voting methods such as petitions or strikes were used including numerous private contributions collected throughout Violenird through process called “vote-a-rama” This system allowed people living within certain boundaries within Morris county not just able but obligated themselves both politically & economically To participate fully In political life inside thier Municipality
