Ventnor City is a small town in Morris County, New Jersey. It is located on the Delaware River and was founded by English colonists in 1764. The population of Ventnor City was 1,644 at the 2010 census. The Robert Treat Mansion, now part of the University of Trenton, was built in 1764 as a farmhouse for Colonel Robert Treat and his family. The mansion changed hands many times before it became the home of Commodore John Woolley and his family in 1892. In 1907, Ventnor City residents voted to annex their town from Sussex Township so they could have more businesses and services available to them. The first post office in Ventnor City was established on January 15, 1800, with James Doherty as its first postmaster. A new post office was built on July 7, 1802 by Samuel Howland under the name "Easton". In 1868-69, Ventnor City land lay along what is now Route 202 between Mercer and Sussex townships to form what would become known as "the sweet spot" for development near the river because of its location atop high ground which made it easy to build homesites. In 1916-1917 local citizens raised money through a fund-raiser effort to purchase land comprising most of modern day downtown Ventnor City from Philadelphia Electric Light Company executives who were considering moving their company's operations two miles south into Camden County (then part of Pennsylvania). The city annexed Sussex Township September 25th 1926 based upon this referendum result but retains its own governance structure as an incorporated municipality beneath the jurisdiction of Morris County government. The original white frame buildings that comprise most of downtown today dates back to 1922 when three brothers – Harry Henson (Harry; Harvey), Clarence Henson (Clarence) – purchased property contiguous with present day First State Bank building #3 at 523 Main Street from PECO Service Company founder Moses Levy for $5 per acre (later increased to $15 per acre). This property formed core business district within which future landmark stores like Kress Bros., Sears & Roebuck opened their doors starting in 1925 including Original Joe's Pizza which still stands today across from First State Bank #3 across from Interstate 95A/I-95B off Exit 87A off I-95S at exit 9B providing access directly into neighboring Camden County without leaving Ventnor City limits! Alliant Chemical Corporation had also opened up shop adjacent to Kress Bros./Sears store on Elmwood Avenue just eastbound off I-95S during prohibition era! There are several other smaller shops included among theseCore Business Districts throughout Downtownventnorcity today!"

Today's economy is based largely on agriculture with some light manufacturing activity as well as services such as health care and real estate development across various parts of the town including downtown and suburban areas outside of town limits. There are also several small businesses that continue to operate unchanged since their incorporation into the Municipal corporation: these include Nescafé Workshops & Dairy (the original business), H&R Block Office Park #1A/B (a large bank building built in 1924), First National Bank (#2C/D on Main Street near Route 9), American Legion Post #3E/F (an old brick building now used by the city departments of Parks & Recreation), Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church (& its cemetery) - one of few buildings remaining fromventnorcity pioneer days - ventnorcity fire Dept., Stroudsburg Area Chamber of Commerce (& its membership hall) - another early pioneer day structure - Old Dutch Bakery (& its lunchroom) - open air market located behind Fire Department Building where fruits are sold daily summer weather permitting; vernorcity post office which opened February 18th 1865 closed May 15th 1996 due to vandalism by some youth members who had access to postal service equipment inside post office; ventnorcity police department which opened November 1957 closed December 2009 due to lack of funding but reopened April 20th 2011 after being moved from neighboring Freehold Township; vernorCity firefighter department which opened October 1965 closed January 2013 due to budget cuts but reopened July 4th 2013 after receiving new funding vernorCity EMS system which opened December 1990 closed September 2014 but reopened January 5th 2015 following renovations vernorCity library which opened in 1959 serves both the municipal corporation and portions of Freehold Township while also serving portions of Morris Township; all five boroughs have their own school districts within their borders while Ventnor City Schools serve all seven municipalities within Union County onceResidents Ofvent Norcia voluntary formed "Union Community Schools District" consisting Of 6 instrumental Board Members appointed By Mayor Pro tempore And Councilmembers chaired jointly With No Vacancies From any Borough With representation OnBoard Up To 2020 District boundaries were Changed effective Feb 1st 2016 And Now Service Is Shared Between All 7 Boroughs In A Single District
The first Europeans to settle in Ventnor City were Dutch farmers and traders who arrived in 1681. The area was mostly forested until the early 1800s, when cleared land began to be developed. In 1814, Ventnor City was founded as a small town by Congregationalists led by Reverend John Woolridge. It grew rapidly and by 1834 had a population of 900 people. In 1846, Ventnor City became an incorporated municipality with a population of 2,500 people. In 1865, it annexed the neighboring town of Hackensack. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Ventnor City saw heavy fighting between Union forces and Confederate troops. The war left many residents injured or dead. After the war, Ventnor City experienced rapid growth as more and more people relocated to the city from surrounding towns and villages. By 1870, it had reached its current size of over 10,000 people.
