The first people to live in Ventnor City were Dutch settlers who arrived in the early 17th century. In 1851, Ventnor City was incorporated as a municipality and continued to grow until it became an unincorporated township in 1957. As of the 2010 Census, Ventnor City had a population of 614 residents. The first school in Ventnor City was founded in 1825 and closed in 1969. Today there are three schools within the city limits: one public school, one private school and one charter school. The history of Ventnor City begins with the Dutch settlers who arrived in what is now Mercer County around 1624. They named their settlement "Nieuwoudam" after Netherland (present-day Netherlands). Over time, other groups started visiting this area and began planting crops and constructing homes. By 1800, there were over 100 Dutch families living here. In 1851, when Ventnor Township was organized, it included all of present-day Mercer County except for part of West Deptford Township which belonged to Gloucester County. At that time, only men could own land and so most property remained divided among family members or friends. Over time, businesses built up around the arrival of more people into this town - such as a blacksmith shop, bakery and grocery store along with various residences for farmers and others who needed goods or services available nearby during those years before air travel began becoming popularized throughout much of America (and vice versa). The growth of townships throughout New Jersey during this time led to some challenges for municipalities like Vestal because they didn't have enough money to maintain roads/sewer systems or build streetlights (since townships were considered part of “the square”). This created tension between Vestal officials appointed by township supervisors while residents waited impatiently for their elected officials to do something about these basic needs – often times resulting inResidents staging boycotts or sit-ins at local businesses until solutions were instituted! One highlight from my childhood memories includes growing up going door-to-door selling ice cream on summer days back when life wasn’t too difficult outside temperatures ranged from 30 degrees all day long without highs above freezing point! Interestingly enough I can still remember turning down offers from parents eager to give me an ice cream treat rather than go out into summer heat without anything cool inside 😉 . So much has changed since then 🙂
