Ventnor City is a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,632 at the 2010 census. The Ventnor City ZIP code and the other community data are included in the New Jersey metropolitan area. The Ventnor City Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The first settlers of Ventnor City were Dutch who arrived in 1676 and built a small fort on what is now Main Street. They were followed by Swedes who arrived about 1720. In 1775, after the American Revolutionary War ended, some British soldiers burned down the fort and all but four of the Dutch settlers died as a result including Peter Schuyler who became one of America's first patriots. In 1802, John Stevens (a descendant of Peter Schuyler) moved to Ventnor from Monmouth County with his family and began to operate a ferry service between Ventnor Village on Hackensack Creek (now called Easton Avenue), across Route 22 (now called Park Avenue), and Trenton via Smithfield Ferry Landing on Delaware Bay which he named Stevensville after himself and his father-in-law Nicholas Biddle (another descendant of Peter Schuyler). He also started an agricultural operation that produced hay, apples, potatoes, fruits, vegetables etc., until 1839 when he sold all his land except for two tracts near present-day College Avenue to James Pappas Sr. for $1 million dollars A new pier was built at Smithfield Ferry Landing around 1840 which connected Delaware Bay with Trenton; this allowed shipping goods from North Jersey to Camden through Trenton without having to go overland or through Philadelphia which then took weeks or even months to get there This system continued until 1862 when Philadelphia opened its port to all inland waterways instead of just sea traffic making it much easier for merchants ship their goods directly into Camden rather than going through Philly . At this time also James Pappas Jr., son of James Pappas Sr., leased part of what is now College Ave from Nicholas Biddle so thatventNOR CITY HISTORIC DISTRICT #2was created adjacent thereto...At present day: College Ave.: It runs northeasterly along its length from its junction with Easton Ave./Trenton Rd./Park Ave./Stevensville Pike/Delaware Bayou opposite State University early 1930s; it becomes more easterly thereafter as it intersects Rutgers Road formerly known as Chapel Rd.; thence taking an easterly course toward New Brunswick before turning southerly onto US 9W near Kingston Ct..As redesigined: Its southern terminus is at US 9W near Kingston Ct., within Mercer County north thereof’ According to the 2010 Censusupdate published by Goble & Siegel LLP - “Ventnor City has seen population growth over recent decades primarily due to inflows from nearby Somerville Township” The influx began with developers moving into the township starting in the late 1990s looking for opportunities such as proximity to major highways as well as access to various businesses such as Graystones Casino Resort & Spa located only minutes away while also creating jobs in areas such as engineering design manufacturing construction services etc.– thus increasing demand for housing units while continuingto support local businesses

Ventnor City is a small, old town located in Mercer County, New Jersey. The population was 2,422 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Dutch colonists in 1664. The first settler in Ventnor City was Pieter de Valk. He and his family built a cabin on the east bank of the Raritan River. In 1702, John Smyth moved from Philadelphia to settle in what is now Ventnor City and began trading with the Native Americans. He built a mill on the riverbank and named it after himself, Smythville. In 1813, Commodore John Cogswell made an attack against Spanish forces at bay near Monmouth Bay and occupied Ventnor City during their raid. The local residents helped to defend their town against the British invaders, and they continued to do so until 1814 when they were forced to leave because of British military pressure atolls around Monmouth Bay. The following year saw another raid against Spanish forces by General James Kirtland; however, this time no damage was done to either side and most of Ventnor City remained unscathed save for some destruction caused by firefighters who fought the blaze that engulfed much of downtown during the raid. By 1830, Ventnor had become one of several settlements proposed for absorption into Princeton Township due to its proximity to Princeton University as well as its rich agricultural history dating back many years before that date. However, despite numerous offers from both sides – including those from then-President Andrew Johnson – only 3 people chose to move there: Pieter de Valk (the original pioneer), Isaac Sears (an influential merchant), and Cornelius Greeley (a lawyer). “[W]e are situated on high ground on which our pious forefathers have laboured with undying industry for many centuries past; we enjoy all Blessings which Providence has bestowed upon us; we are supplied with everything necessary for human needs; while yet extending our intercourse beyond our own limits we may hope that others will join us hereabouts as soon as possible…. hitherto have been drawn but few strangers; more than three hundred families now reside within our precincts…it is manifestly intended that these people should remain here forevermore…..Our present situation cannot be long sustained without their presence” - Cornelius Greeley aboutventnorcity
