This resulted in creation of what is now Downtown Union City from parts of both NorthWarren Township (now part of Bergen County) and SouthWarren Township (now part of Passaic County). 2 miles south on Route 9 from where US 9 crosses Hackensack River was established what became known as Riverside Park on November 20th 1845 by WW Norton & Sons Merchants Cooperatives Trust Company with donation by Mrs Jane Addams who also donated land for municipal park which also includes Harrison Field Race Course today’s Riverside Parkade & Athletic Fields next door to First Presbyterian Church east side between 6th Street & Seventh Avenue original location being near present site now marked by Jennifer Ladd’s property line East Side Between Sixth Street And Seventh Avenue at busy intersection Jefferson Davis Boulevard - named for General Robert E Lee who died December 12th 1865 aged 56 years old located just across street from present day First Presbyterian Church

The town was named in honor of General Philip Schuyler, who had led American forces during the War of 1812. Union City grew rapidly after it became an important center for trade and commerce in northwestern New Jersey. It became an important port for shipping goods to and from the Philadelphia area and later served as a major manufacturing center. The city experienced significant growth during the 19th century, thanks to its location at the intersection of two major highways, Route 9 (now Interstate 95) and Route 11 (now Interstate 287). In 1875, Union City become part of Bergen County when it was split off from Hudson County.
