Totowa, New Jersey is a borough in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,816 at the 2010 census. Totowa was formed on May 15, 1834 from part of Rahway Township. The name comes from the Dutch word "tote" meaning "all". The town's first settler was Nicholas Hegarty and his family who arrived in 1792. George Washington stopped over at Totowa on his way to Princeton while marching through New Jersey and spent the night there on September 16, 1796. On July 3, 1824, Totowa became a full Borough under the terms of an act of the New Jersey Legislature which passed after a vote by the township’s trustees. On February 2nd 1830 Abraham Davenport founded what is now called Davenportville on land patented to him by John Woolston for $1 per acre (later increased to $2). Davenport named it in honor of General Anthony Wayne who had defeated British forces at Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1812 and earned the nickname “The Hero of Trenton” due to this victory. In 1847 Samuel Mifflin donated land north of present day Route 9 east of where he lived to make room for what is now known as Mifflin Park near where he built his home and barns in 1797-98; also included were their two millsheets which produced flour until 1865 when they were replaced by a larger machine shop that still operates today. In 1870 James Purdy opened a grocery store just south of Center Street across from what is now known as Mifflin Park located between Philadelphia and Bound Brook Avenue (now Routes 9A/9B). This store remain open until 1984 when it closed its doors following Hurricane Agnes damage to its building which resulted in extensive flooding inside that caused much loss among their inventory valued at over $100 thousand dollars including furniture, fixtures and other property not affected by storm damage but destroyed beyond repair or rehabilitation costing an additional million dollarsRestored structures include: A large portion (approximate)of original structure survived with only portions having been damaged or completely destroyed during storm event; windowsills remain largely unharmed despite being impacted directly by water; interior drapes are still intact; goods stored within are accessible without significant damage even though some locks were lost during flood

Totowa, New Jersey is a small town located in the northeastern corner of New Jersey. The population was 9,890 at the 2010 census and it is part of Union County. The town was founded in 1811 by George Totowa and is named for him. Totowa is located on the southern border of Union County and its eastern border forms the border of Monmouth County. The first settler in Totowa was George Totowa who arrived in 1811. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1812, he married Susannah Greenough and they had six children. In 1814, he bought 257 acres (119 hectares) of land from Nathaniel Hackett for $5 per acre. This land would later become known as Totowa Township. In 1817, George Totowas son John Fenton took over ownership of the house on Main Street which his father had built originally. John Fenton would continue to live there until his death in 1927. In 1830, Abram Cramer purchased 5 acres (2 hectares) from John Fenton for $10 per acre which became known as Cramer's Corners Township after him. A post office called "Totowah" was established in 1834, but it never served any residents due to the fact that there was no track or road leading to it from anywhere else within their township! Eventually, a new post office called "Easton" was established just east of town proper on Route 206 and operated until 1955 when it merged into neighboring Easton with its own post office! In 1840, Reverend David Starr set up a school in what is now downtown Rotterdam while barns were being erected primarily for this purpose around town center - these days you can still see some evidence of these early structures including an old well dating back to 1775! Reverend Starr directed instruction at this school until February 1862 when he resigned because OFD offered him an appointment with President Lincoln as United States Minister to Russia instead! Reverend Starr returned home following this stint abroad but continued to offer religious services at his old school until his death four years later at age 90! After Reverend Starr's death, classes resumed inside the existing Rotterdam Methodist Church pending construction of a new building which never happened despite high hopes; however Rev'd David's legacy lives on through Vespers Sundays every week throughout November organized by Rotterdam chapter Omega Psi Fraternity - one stop shopping for all your church related needs ! From 1840-1927 our township Administrator lived upstairs above Mr Ramsdell's store... Mrs Potts officiated during funeralsweets etc always taking careof everything needed ! As we know today most things started out like that ;)
