The Totowa Township Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. was organized in 1922. The club is the oldest rifle and pistol club in New Jersey. It practices shooting at two ranges: one located on Route 35 in Totowa and the other located on Morrisville Road in Dix Hills. In 1915, the township had a single revolver shooting range open to anyone who desired it. However, this range closed after three years because of low attendance rates. In 1951, the township established its own rifle range on Depot Street corner with Main Street in downtown Totowa. The range opened for use by members of the public only eight months later due to heavy rains that flooded most of their facilities and destroyed many equipment items that were used there before. In 1976, the township established its own handgun range on North Avenue corner with Easton Road in central Totowa. This handgun range was also used by members of the public only eight months later due to heavy rains that flooded most of their facilities and destroyed many equipment items that were used there before. In 2010, Totowa Township decided to establish a third shotgun target range which would be open to allay concerns about potential gun violence within its borders should outside firearms enthusiasts decide to come into town for target practice during certain local events or holidays - such as Fourth Of July celebrations or Christmas vacations - without first getting prior permission from police officers responsible for enforcing gun laws within the township boundaries (specifically those involving deer hunting). The new targetrange will be located off of Southwick Boulevard just north of Route 8 between Holmes Boulevard and North Avenue). As with all new firearm ranges development within New Jersey, permits will need to be obtained from both state police departments as well as from local municipalities where targets will be situated; however, initial construction is scheduled to begin shortly after Labor Day next year (2018) and Target Range speculation indicates that this newRange may eventually become operational permanently once all necessary approvals have been received).

The Battle of Totowa was fought on November 11, 1864, between Union and Confederate forces in the town of Totowa, New Jersey. The Union force consisted of a detachment from the 1st New York Volunteer Cavalry Regiment under Colonel James W. Cooke, while the Confederate force included units from the 2nd South Carolina Infantry and 3rd Florida Infantry Regiment. The battle resulted in a Union victory and ended Confederate control over Totowa.

Totowa is a town in Sullivan County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Hammonton metropolitan area. Totowa was founded by German colonists in 1777 as "Wiegandt". The name comes from the Algonquian word "wagi", meaning "place of refuge." The first store in Totowa was built on Main Street in 1827 and operated for about twenty years. One of the most important events at this time happened when John Fenton opened his store on High Street in 1848. This event helped spur development around Totowa and made it one of the largest towns in Sullivan County with a population of over 10,000 people by 1860. The growth of Totowan continued through the 1800s and into the 1900s with many businesses opening up including two breweries, a bank, a grocery store and several residences. However during World War I there were several devastating attacks on local farmers which led to an increase in unemployment that lasted until 1919. In 1928, Totowa became one of thirty-six municipalities within the new Camden-Hammonton metropolitan area and experienced rapid growth due to its location within easy commuting distance to Philadelphia and other major cities. Today Totowa has become known as an agricultural town with much emphasis placed onits manufacturing capabilities such as Textile Mills (Auromere), Paper Products (Erie) and Agriculture (Fritsch). During World War II there was significant community effort to help support military members stationed nearby while also providing food supplies for troops barracks and hospitals throughout New Jersey along with helping run patriotic events like bingo nights for soldiers during their stay here. In 1945 after war ended total enrollment had swollen to almost 30,000 people living in what is now called “Totowah” or simply “the Town” according to village historian Drury Hargrave who said at that point: “It [was] not unusual for families to have four or five children working together…..There wasn't any industrialization then….All these people were farmers; all these people were shopkeepers; all these people were artisans……..it's just amazing how well they stuck together post-war – even though we did have some integration problems” .

Totowa was founded in 1795 by John Totowa and his brother, Nicholas. The town was named for the Potomac River. The first post office was established in 1800. The town's first store opened in 1802. In 1824, Totowa became a borough and the first mayor was elected. In 1830, the borough became a city and mayor was elected at-large. In 1871, Totowa annexed the neighboring village of Cedar Grove and the township of Springdale. On May 14, 1881, Totowa became a state capital with its own government and within New Jersey.
