There are also two churches: First Presbyterian Church and Congregational Church of Christ. The community's economy is based on services such as retail trade and manufacturing. These include real estate holdings including tracts of land for sale near the factory park where Sony PlayStation's headquarters are located; construction materials companies that produce products for local homebuilders; and tottering agricultural operations including hay production and potatoes

Totowa is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. Totowa was created on November 3, 1814 from portions of the former township of East Brunswick. The borough seat is located in the eastern part of Totowa. The first settler in what is now Totowa was John Coffin who arrived on October 10, 1798. He and his family were the first people to reside in what would become Totowah Township. In 1814, parts of East Brunswick were annexed by Totowa and it became its own municipality. On December 15th of that year, the Borough Council voted to name their new borough "Totowa" after John Coffin's original home town in Somerset County, England. In 1875, following an act passed by the New Jersey General Assembly which made municipalities mandatory within certain areas (i.e., Camden County), Totowa incorporated as a city under charter number 715-A with a population of 13,819 residents on April 11th becoming one of only five cities in New Jersey to be granted this privilege; all others being Trenton (1876), Edison (1878), Paterson (1879), and Newark (1920).
The Totowa area was first settled by Europeans in the early 17th century. By 1800, Totowa had a population of about 350 people. The town was chartered on July 6, 1819, and became a part of Middlesex County. It was incorporated as a borough on March 14, 1912. The borough was dissolved on January 1, 1974, and its land re-allocated to other municipalities in the county.
