Totowa is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,403 at the 2010 census. Totowa was incorporated on March 17, 1874.

Totowa is a small town located in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2000 census. Totowa was formed as a result of the merger of two villages on March 21, 1881. The name means "town on the river" and it derives from the Dutch word "totaal" meaning entire or complete. The first settler in Totowa was Abram de Vos who arrived in 1682. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and named it Stadthuysen after his friend and neighbor Jan van der Velde. In 1756, Peter Minuit came to Totowa and purchased land from Abram de Vos for $2 per acre. By 1800, there were six houses in Totowa with fifty-four people living Hereford cattle and farming tobacco until 1814 when salt water began to enter the township through Long Island Sound (the Hackensack River empties into Long Island Sound). In 1821, John Fenton bought land near present-day Easton Avenue and developed it into an agricultural village with sixteen homes and sixty-six acres of land. Fenton had plans to move his village upriver but problems arose with Native Americans who inhabited this area before he could build his community proper. In 1875, Lehigh Valley Railroad laid tracks through Totowa enabling goods transportation between Philadelphia and points north along the Susquehanna River valley. By 1880s, many farmers had started moving out of agriculture to take jobs in nearby cities such as Camden and Trenton due to improved transportation options available outside of their home state of New Jersey during that time period.$ which led totowans - farmers & city dwellers combined - Flooding in 1980 damaging over 2/3 mile long main street

Totowa, New Jersey is a small town located in Hudson County, New York. The population was 5,544 at the 2010 census. Totowa has been inhabited by the Lenape Tribe of Native Americans since the 17th century. The name "Totowa" means "acres of land." In 1838, when George Clinton founded the Town of Tonawanda in present-day Erie County, New York, he named it after his birthplace and namesake, Totowa Township in England. The first settler in Totowa was Nicholas Biddle who arrived with his family in 1681. He organized a company to purchase 100 acres (40 hectares) of land from John Winthrop for £100. Biddle's home still stands and is now known as the Nicholas Biddle House Museum. In 1841, Augustus Dearborn purchased 6 acres (2 hectares) of land from Nicholas Biddle for $10 per acre.Dearborn became one of the most successful businessmen in America during this time period with his businesses including Dearborn Dyeing & Manufacturing Co., Dearborn Engine Works and Dearborn Mutual Life Insurance Company. Dearborn also served as Mayor of Totowa from 1851 to 1861 and United States Senator from 1863 to 1865 under Presidents Abraham Lincoln and James Buchanan respectively among other distinctions. Despite being relatively small at only 5 square miles (12 km²), Totowa played an important role during American Revolution due to its location on both sides of the Delaware River between Pennsylvania and New Jersey - providing supplies and support to British forces fighting against Washington's Continental Army. In 1776, when Congress passed the Resolution Prohibiting any Person or Persons whatever from Settling on Lands within these United Colonies without first obtaining our Consent – Totowans were among those who sided with Great Britain over America's fledgling government! In 1783 following Thomas Paine's publication Of The Rights Of Man Against Tyrannical Government – which helped sparkthe American Revolution – several local papermakers such as Gideon Welles started printing pamphlets that promoted Enlightenment ideals such as egalitarianism and individual liberty.. Among these early revolutionaries was future United States President George Washington who attended a meeting where well-known printers Mr.[John] Adams,, Dr[Thomas Paine], Mr[Samuel Adams] met to discuss how best to spread revolutionary ideas throughout America.. After successfully printing thousands copies of pamphlets throughout late summer/early fall 1783 at their printing shop located on Water Street next door to what is now Harrison’s General Store, they decided that publishing pamphlets should be their main form OF agitation/promotion instead OF army recruitment! This new decision set the stage for what would become known as The Patriotic War or simply Revolutionary War era–a term that was not widely used until after World War II! Although many members of The patriotic war Society still reside today primarily near or within walking distance of their ancestral homes within sightlinesof Monmouth Junction Bridge just outside town limits; physical evidence suggests that most original patriots died young while serving our nation’s cause rather then living long enought o seeRevolutionary results? It has been estimated that there are more than 400 descendants currently residingin central NJ active in various patriotic activities ..... overall I believe totowans have taken pride&embarrassmentin having playedkey role inthe historyoftherepublic&shouldorgivethemselvesmorecreditfortheirmightystrugglesandfoughthandilyagainst oddsratherthantribalism
