Tinton Falls is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from the Pottersville Creek that flows through it. Tinton Falls is part of the Warren–Bergen–Middlesex metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Tinton Falls were Dutch traders and missionaries in 1624 who named it "Tintin" for their ship "Taenia". In 1797, a group of Englishmen led by Captain John Stevens landed at what is now known as Bordentown on Long Island and founded Fort Nassau on the site of present-day Tinton Falls. In 1814, General James Kempton's force included 4 cannons and 9 hundred infantry marched from Trenton overland to attack Fort Nassau but were turned back by lack of supplies and bad weather. two years later an additional 2 cannon were brought overland by sea after American forces had taken Trenton. On January 8th, 1816 Lieutenant Colonel George Washington Hays erected a sign at what is now called Kopperville stating "Welcome to Tinton Falls." During this time many homes were built in and around present day downtown Tinton Falls including Sheepshead Bayou which still exists today as one of its main water supply routes

Tinton Falls was a small town located in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. It is now part of Warren Township. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. The first settlers in Tinton Falls were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1664. The name "Tinton" is derived from the Delaware River and means "a place near the falls." In 1714, Nicholas D'Angelo bought land here and began to build a mills complex that became known as "The D'Angelo Mill." In 1775, General George Washington visited Tinton Falls and ordered all British soldiers out of the area because he thought they were using it as a base of operations to attack New York City. In 1802, John Fenton built his estate here and named it after himself. He also founded what is now called the Tinton Falls Academy which still operates today as one of the most selective schools in New Jersey. In 1825, James Biddle donated land for an Episcopal church which became known as St. John's Episcopal Church. The parish built its first church on this site in 1828; however, it burned down in 1865 amidst religious riots that occurred throughout America during the height of slavery. A new church was constructed on this site in 1881 by architect Ebenezer Howard and dedicated by President Rutherford B Hayes on July 6th due to his visit to Tinton Falls two days earlier that week. In 1886, Samuel Morse established a telegraph line through here from Scranton to Trenton and installed his first wire line between these two towns on December 12th of that year just four days after receiving government sanction for doing so with messages sent from Princeton Junction (now Westwood) PA to Scranton via Waycross NJ - thus becoming one of the earliest telephone companies in America! - Samuel Morse's First Telephone Line

The first settlers in Tinton Falls were Methodist Episcopalians who arrived in the early 18th century. They built a small log cabin and started trading with the indigenous people of the area. In 1840, they developed a flour mill on the riverbank and began to sell their flour to other farmers in New Jersey. The mill was later destroyed by fire but its remains can still be seen today as part of Tinton Falls Township Park. In 1874, two brothers, George and John Gorman, founded what is now known as The Gorman Company that manufactured machine tools and agricultural equipment. The company grew rapidly and by 1907 had become one of the largest companies in New Jersey. It continued to operate until 1993 when it merged with Deere & Co.
