The population density is 11 people per square mile (4/km²). The racial makeup of Tinton Falls is 98%white; 1%black or African American; 0%Native American; and 1%from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino residents make up 2%of the population
Tinton Falls was founded in 1764 by Reverend John Tinton. The township was named after the falls, which are located in the township. In 1846, the Tinton Falls and Maplewood Railroad was built and it served as a main artery connecting New Jersey with Pennsylvania. The railroad was discontinued in 1951.
