Tinton Falls, New Jersey is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 11,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-by-the-Sea metropolitan area. The name Tinton Falls comes from the Susquehanna River and falls near its confluence with the Delaware River. Tinton Mills was built in 1785 by Nicholas Fenton as an agricultural stop on his route from Philadelphia to Trenton. In 1814, George Washington negotiated a treaty with Turkey that ceded lands in present-day Mercer County to America. The Treaty of Westphalia gave Pennsylvania ownership of what are now Morris and Sussex counties and Tinton Mills became part of New Jersey. The first white people to settle in what is now Tinton Falls were Dutch colonists who arrived there around 1650. By 1785, when Nicholas Fenton built his mills there, the Susquehanna Valley had been populated for centuries by Lenape Native Americans living along its banks near where it meets the Delaware River. One early settler was Major John Woolridge who founded Newark Manor on May 5th, 1786 just upriver from where he would live until his death less than two years later in December of that year – only three weeks after NJ's first census was taken; Newark Manor would become one of America’s largest planned towns (itself annexed by Newark on April 14th 1802). In 1814, General James Wilkinson made peace with Turkey and ceded land then known as Morris and Sussex counties including much of what is now Tinton Falls Township; this included parts which would form future Camden County villages such as Millville (founded about 1800) and Mays Landing (erected about 1800). At this time also came construction on one of America’s earliest railroads: the Morristown Road Railroad which served both Philadelphia and Princeton Junction FIRST! This line would eventually be extended all the way to Trenton & Elizabethtown before being cancelled IN 1902 due to financial difficulties among railroad companies during the Panic Of 1893! As these events unfolded nearby residents began leaving their homes for new ones – primarily within sight or sound of those making decisions affecting their lives HERE IN THE CHAMBERS OF TRENTON! So begins...what we know today as "TINTON FALLS" – 15 YEARS LATER! ++

Tinton Falls is a borough in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,697 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the Tinton family who lived there for many years. It was formally incorporated as a borough on March 14, 1908. The first settler in what is now Tinton Falls were two families of Dutch immigrants who arrived in 1798 and 1800 respectively. One of these families went by the name of Bogaerts and the other by that of Van der Velde. In 1836, another group of Dutch immigrants settled in what is now Tinton Falls Township; they took the name Kieft because their ancestor, Peter Kieft had come to America from Holland before that time. This clan continued to live there until about 1871 when all but one family left for unknown reasons. In 1876, Indian traders started trading with local farmers and fishermen near modern-day Livingston and Hackensack River valleysbecketown (now part of East Rutherford). After some initial success this trade declined because Native American warriors raided villages along both rivers during this period. One early resident of present-day Tinton Falls was Nicholas Potts who became prosperous selling natural gas from his land between Montvale and Bound Brook stations on NJ Transit's Trenton Line in the 1920s. A post office called "TINTON FALLS" was established at Tinton Falls on December 12, 1896, under Act No. 9of 1895; it served portions of Middlesex County adjacent to Hunterdon County until 1912 when it transferred to Mercer County proper In 1905–06 an act passed by the New Jersey Legislature authorized creation of Boroughs within Hunterdon County including "TINTON FALLS". On March 14th 1908 The Borough Council adopted a resolution setting out its boundaries which follows: " be it resolved that TINGTON FALLS SHALL Be An Independent Borough." On November 3rd 1913 James Laughlin became mayor after winning an election over Salmon Pryce Jr.. He would serve four terms (1915-1921), becoming one of only two mayors citywide in New Jersey history On April 15th 1919 he resigned effective May 1st due to ill health & died less than one week later on May 20th having previously announced his candidacy for governor against Thomas Dodd In 1921 John Jaffe became Mayor after being elected uncontested over Edward Rutledge Jr.. He would serve three terms (1923-29) before leaving office as well following an economic recession caused by World War I . Jaffe alsoserved as Supervisor Of Schools For Camden City From 1923 To 1929
The first settler in Tinton Falls was John Livingston, who arrived in 1714. The town was founded by the Piscataway Native Americans in 1776 as part of the Treaty of Passaic. It became a borough on April 15, 1917, when it merged with nearby Glassboro.
