Tinton Falls is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,338 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tinton Falls was founded by members of the Dutch Reformed Church in 1764 and named for Peter Tintinger, one of two men who were instrumental in its founding. The community began to grow rapidly during the early 20th century as a result of its position on the Susquehanna River and its proximity to Pennsylvania and New York City. In 1925, Tinton Falls became an incorporated municipality and annexed portions of neighboring Easton. The growth of Tinton Falls ended in 1990 when it merged with Easton Township. In 2003, the township merged with Monmouth County to form Hunterdon County. Today, Tinton Falls continues to be a vibrant community with strong spiritual ties to its Dutch Reformed church roots and history. With access to some of the most beautiful countryside in New Jersey and diverse cultural experiences available, residents are enjoying their time here today as well as tomorrow’s opportunities. In Tinton Falls, New Jersey, the community of over 10,000 people has a rich and colorful history. The first Europeans to arrive in the area were Dutch farmers who landed in what is now Tinton Falls in 1664. The Dutch name for the town was "Tintin Hoek," which means "the point" or "point of landing." The town was originally known as West Orange because it lay on the edge of Newark Township. In 1824, John Peconin, one of America's first land developers and president of BankAtlantic Trust Company, purchased 1/2 mile (1 km) of swamp land at what is now Main Street and West Side Road from Andrew Waddell. He named the property Tinton Falls after his home village in England. Tinton Falls became an important local center during its early years due to its location on the banks of the Raritan River. It began to prosper thanks to its natural resources and its proximity to both Newark and Princeton. In 1868, Tinton Falls became part of Newark Township when it was created from parts of Middlesex County. During World War II, much effort went into creating a wartime munitions plant in Tinton Falls that would produce munitions for American forces fighting in Europe. However, little production took place because World War II ended before the plant could be completed. After the war, many businesses closed down due to economic changes throughout New Jersey and New York City. By 1976, only four businesses remained operational in downtown Tinton Falls- all small businesses that served primarily local residents rather than exporting their products out into surrounding areas like neighboring towns did during previous decades. A primary factor behind these closures was technological advancement which made manufacturing more difficult outside of North America while also reducing labor costs inside those countries; this led many companies such as GM and IBM to leave New Jersey for easier working conditions overseas instead making new technology available within our borders where production rates were often higher than back home United States companies dictated by union contracts
