In 1922, the Tenafly Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in Tenafly, New Jersey. The club became a shooting society with a 16-inch barrel and a pistol grip. In 1923, they adopted the first modern telescopic sight for pistols in the state of New Jersey. In 1934, they added an .22 caliber revolver to their roster and in 1935, they purchased a rifle from Edward Fenton of Camden, NJ. They continued to make improvements to their firearms practices until World War II when they were forced to close due to lack of funding.
Tenafly is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Hunterdon and Morris counties. The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Tenafly were Dutch traders who landed there in 1664. The Englishman James I of England granted a charter to Nicholas Myrick and Company for "the purchase of land byPurchase from the Indians" in 1676. The name Tenafly derives from one of three places mentioned in this charter- either Tenezal or Teaneck (now part of Newark). In 1753, George Washington's forces passed through Tenafly on their way to Fort Lee during the French and Indian War. In 1775, when New Jersey joined the American Revolution against Great Britain, Tenafly voted to join the new state as part of Mercer County. At that time it had a population of only 150 people; by 1800 it had grown to 2,500 people with a storehouse full of flour and other supplies for war efforts along with homes for stockyards and grist mills. Ammunition production also grew during this time with early cannon being made at an old mill site just outside present day Tenafly Township. On November 15th 1837 – two years after Thanksgiving – Battle Creek Flood occurred makingTenafly one of many communities facing water shortages due to heavy rainfall over extended periods later that year statewide including parts west of Trenton NJ due numerous flash flooding events dating back several weeks prior as well which impacted various municipalities within those boundaries as well according to NJDNR reports dated December 12th 1837 throughout most portions impacted however some isolated cases characterized herein as “flooding” may have happened even earlier suchas Flooding reported days/weeksprior actually taking place prior even tho no official depiction exists extant documenting such incidents however generally speaking most flooding event took place near watersheds resultant creating months long period where public works efforts were required both large & small government owned works projectslarge reclamation projects & smaller home improvement projects oftentimes conducted simultaneously multiple times over multiple days resulting in high volume activity earthmoving equipment used extensively Specialized vehicles used primarily 3 phase power conversion converted gasoline engine tow truck type service vehicle utilized water wheel coupled hydraulically operated pump type pumping station utilizing underground Utilities company lines main line services available 24 hours 7 days/week

Tenafly was founded in 1795 by John Tenafly and his wife, Rebecca. The town was named for the ten tribes of Israel that migrated from Canaan to America during the time of King David. The first post office in Tenafly was established in 1813. In 1862, the name of the town was changed to West Orange because of a boundary dispute between Tenafly and East Orange. In 1974, Tenafly became an independent city. The Tenaflys were a prominent family in local history and politics. Their son, George Washington Tenafly, served as Mayor of West Orange from 1898 to 1902 and as Governor of New Jersey from 1912 to 1916. Other members of the family include James Prentice Tenafly (1858-1927), who served as Mayor of Newark from 1917 to 1921; Nathaniel Macomber (1861-1937); Harry Jaffe (1920-2007); Maurice Hirschhorn (1924-2008); Irving Wertheimer (1920-2009); Abraham Levy (1914-2010). In addition to their sons, other notable descendants include Franklin D. Roosevelt's grandson Elliott Roosevelt; Woodrow Wilson's granddaughter Eleanor Roosevelt; Golda Meir's son Benjamin Netanyahu; Hillary Rodham Clinton's daughter Chelsea Clinton; Arthur Ashe's son Jimmy Costello; Ulysses S. Grant's great nephew Chester Atherton Grant III.; and Edwin Forrest’s stepson Osgood Forrest Jr..
Tenafly was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Tenafly. The community was originally located on the east side of the Delaware River, but it relocated to its present location in 1887. Tenafly is now a census-designated place (CDP) and has a population of over 11,000 people.
