Tenafly is a small town in Union County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,431 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Trenton–Ewing, New Jersey Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tenafly was founded by John Tenafly and his wife Mary on April 12, 1795 as a log cabin community on the north bank of the Monmouth River in what is now Union County. The first residents were farmers who grew corn and beans for local markets. By 1820, Tenafly had a Baptist church and five stores. In 1824-25, Tenafly's first school opened with fifty students; it closed in 1951 because of financial limitations. In 1865-66, when Trenton was established as an incorporated municipality, Tenafly became its first village; it remained an unincorporated township until 1988 when it became part of the new borough of Trenton. At that time it ceased to be administratively separate from Trenton and consolidated with other municipalities within Trenton proper; however, most aspects of its municipal government remain unchanged to this day. Tenafly has been located near various waterfalls since its founding: Mount Pocono (now known as Rockspring Falls), West Branch Monmouth River (now known as East Branch Monmouth River), North Branch Monmouth River (now known as South Branch Monmouth River), and upper Delaware Creek (now known as Catasauqua Creek). These natural attractions have made the town popular among tourists over the years - more than 2 million people visited Tenafly between 1990 and 2014 according to Visit NJ. In recent years some developments have taken place in town including an arena/park which opened in 2013 adjacent to School Avenue Elementary School while also developing an outpatient clinic for Comcast Spectacor which relocated from Sunrise Township just south of Interstate 95. With these growth opportunities comes increased development pressure on infrastructure such as roads and bridges which have contributed to rising costs for goods and services brought into or transported through TenafLY.

Tenafly, New Jersey, is a borough in Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Emmetsburg-Trenton metropolitan area. Tenafly was formed on April 14, 1879 from parts of East Amherst Township and West Orange Township. The township of Tenafly was organized on February 3rd, 1795 by Samuel Shippen and others as Huntingdon Township-and,-upon application to the government by many residents thereof being accepted-, it was divided into two townships on March 10th,-East Amherst (now Tenafly) and West Orange (now South Orange). On November 16th, 1801 the first land tax for this township was levied. The first home built in what is now Tenafly were a cabin called "Doris" which stood near present day Livingston Avenue and Woodrow Wilson Boulevard.
