Tenafly, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,857 at the 2010 census. Tenafly is located on the border of Middlesex and Sussex counties. The name "Tenafly" means "settlement by the ten men." The first European to visit Tenafly was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. He named it after his hometown of Verona in Italy. Within a few years, other Europeans had arrived and started settlements near what is now Tenafly: Germans in 1681-82, Swedes in 1722-23, English settlers from Warwick (now West Windsor) Township in 1764-65, Italian immigrants from Parma (now Peekskill) in 1814-15 and Dutch colonists arriving from Paramus (now Monmouth County) in 1821-22. In 1835 Tenafly became part of the newly formed township of Middlesex Borough within the then new borough of Princeton. In 1886 the township became an independent municipality with its own government and court system under the name of Princeton Borough Park). On February 14th1920 Tenafly had its incorporation as a town by an act of the New Jersey Legislature under the name "Tenafly". From 1951 until 2006 there was only one ZIP Code for all residents - 08382 - which included all those living within 10 miles of Morristown along I-80/I-9 roads as well as those within 1 mile or less on Route 322 which served as both main street and local road into townships and municipalities below 10 miles east or west of Morristown including Allendale (10 miles east), Belvidere (10 miles east), Buckskins Landing (11 miles north), Clearwater Beach (12 miles north), Farmington Hills (13mile south), Gloucester Heights (14mile south), Hackensack Meadows(15mile southeast).

Tenafly is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,922 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Newark metropolitan area. Tenafly is located on the Elizabeth River and forms part of the border between Morris County and Monmouth County. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Tenafly were Dutch traders who built a trading post there in 1675. The name "Tenafly" was derived from the Delaware word "tenapelli" meaning "a place where two forks join." In 1737, John de Lancey founded a ferry service from Newark to Tenafly crossing the Elizabeth River. In 1814, Five Mile Run Creek was diverted to form an alluvial flood plain on which Tenafly began to grow up around its present site as well as along its nearby creeks and rivers. A schoolhouse was built here in 1817 by Reverend James Waddell and replaced by a more permanent structure in 1834. In 1830, tenement blocks were erected near Market Street for development; these continued until about 1860 when they were replaced by frame houses with their present appearance. In 1870, a cotton gin was started by Augustus Mifflin & Sons at what is now Meeting Street and Second Avenue; it operated until 1898 when it went out of business due to technological advances better suited for other types of production such as sugar cane farming. That same year saw completion of the first interurban railway line between Camden and Newark–on-the-Sea (now Broadview Heights). This line directly connected Tenafly with both towns through stations at First Avenue (now Courtland Boulevard)and Third Street (now Rodney Road). As industrial production increased throughout America during World War II, employment opportunities grew available in Tenafyl
