In 1957, the Tenafly Junior/Senior High School purchased two sets of new 0.50-inch Weaver model 8x42mm binoculars for use by students and staff members on campus. These are still being used today at the high school. Binocular sales increased during World War II because people felt it was important to be able to see clearly things like bombers flying overhead or troops marching across a battlefield. During the war, there were many purchases made for military personnel as well as civilians who needed to see what was going on around them Heavier than normal ammunition requirements caused some manufacturers to develop lightweight versions of their original designs which became known as “titanium” binos due to their light weight and durability; these models could be carried around without fear of breaking or losing them (Fenton & Hargrave 1948). After World War II, people began usingbinoculars more frequently for general observation and then special purposes such as night sky watching or astronomy (Kleinman 1968). The first major manufacturer specializing in this type of product was Rheinhold Ziegenfell who produced several different types of telescopes including a 10x40mm zooming telescope and a 12x36mm refractor telescope (Kleinman 1968). Over time, other manufacturers followed suit until there were now nearly every type and size available from commercial producers (Crawford 1978). Tenafly is a town in Warren County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 8,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton metropolitan area. Tenafly is located on the southern border of Essex County and shares borders with Elizabeth to its north and west, Middletown Township to its east, and Sayreville to its south. The first settler in what became Tenafly was John Beecham who arrived in 1781. The original name for the town was "Easton". In 1814 it changed to "Tenafly" after General Samuel Denton's invasion of New Jersey during the War of 1812. The post office at Tenafly opened on July 6, 1800, under the name "Easton". In 1825 Tenafly incorporated as a borough; it remained an unincorporated borough until 1974 when it became part of Warren County as part of the absorption of Monmouth Junction into neighboring Middlesex County. From 1974-2006, Tenafly had a Democratic mayor and two Republican mayors (both terms ending after 2006). In November 2006 tenacious incumbent mayor Bob Menendez announced he would not seek reelection due to health concerns but did not retire from office; he will instead run for re-election as a Democrat in 2018 using his residency in Newark while serving out his term as Mayor pro tempore through 2020. Today there are many businesses that have been established here over time such as Verizon Wireless which has their own headquarters next door to NJ Power Generation which also has their own plant downriver making this one giant power plant! Another big employer here for many years was American Weighs & Jocks where they used to do all your grocery shopping! They closed down about 5 years ago now but their products can still be found at most local stores!

Tenafly is one of the oldest townships in New Jersey and was founded on March 11th, 1777 by Captain John Tenafly. It was known as "The Meadows" because of its large meadow area that stretched along the Raritan River. In 1801, the Township was renamed to Tenafly after General George Washington's military campaign against Great Britain and it became part of Uniontown Township on May 10th, 1802. On December 15th, 1824, Tenafly lost its status as a township due to lack of population growth and it reverted back to borough form on January 1st, 1924. The Borough currently falls within the boundaries of New Brunswick Township which also includes most of what is now tenafly including Spring Brookia Park.
Tenafly was founded in 1798 by John Tenafly and his family. The town began as a small waystation on the New Jersey Turnpike, and over time grew into a major cultural center for the region. In 1905, Tenafly became the county seat of Monmouth County. Today, Tenafly is a small community located within Monmouth County's eastern boundary.
