In 1925, the New Jersey Legislature passed a bill authorizing construction of a power plant at Tenafly for the purpose of generation of electricity for New Jerseyans. The plant was completed in 1927 and became known as Tenafly Generating Station. In 1982, tenafly generated enough electricity to provide all of Newark with power for one day; this event is now commemorated by annually hosting the Newark International Airshow at this location.
Tenafly, New Jersey is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. The Tenafly Airgun and Rifle Club was founded on October 1, 1915 by Mr. John A. Sweeney and his wife Mrs. Anna Breslin with two rifles and twelve revolvers. At first it was an all-male club only meeting twice a month at the home of one of the Sweeney sons; but membership soon grew to include women as well as men and they held their first Ladies' Meeting on January 7th, 1916. On December 5th 1918 the club presented its first pistol tournament to future president/CEO of M&M’s John “Penny” Madden who won with a score of 66 out of 100 points from eighteen contestants! In 1921 the Tenafly Airgun & Rifle Club became affiliated with The American shotgun Association (ASA). Today the ASA President is Vice President Bob Overstreet! In 1951 local resident Clifford Dolan organized a small air rifle team for members of his community through Penobscot Fairs where he placed second in a state championships event at Camden Park!
