In 1876, photographer and inventor Julius Weise began production on a camera obscura that used a simple system of multiple lenses to create an image with low light sensitivity. This camera became known as the Weise Camera and was used by photographers throughout the 1870s and 1880s. In 1886, photographer Cornelius Vanderbilt Hamlin built the first successful photographic enlarger, which he called the Hamlin enlarger. This device allowed photographers to print large images at high quality without having to purchase expensive equipment or use negative film. In 1914, Optical Instrument Corporation (OI) was founded in Summit by Harry Houdini and his brother Willard W. Houdini. OI was one of the earliest companies to produce interchangeable lens cameras, which allowed users to change lenses for different shooting styles. In 1944, The RCA Victor Company purchased Optical Instrument Corporation (OI). From then until its closure in 1949, RCA Victor manufactured and sold optical products under two separate brands -Victor Opticals and Polaroid Camera Corporation - making it one of the most significant technological achievements of 20th century photography. The company's continued success is due largely to its innovative products such as interchangeable lens cameras, video recorders/ players, digital photo frames and basic editing software packages

summit is a city in the New Jersey metropolitan area, located on the border of Bergen and Union counties. The population was 17,824 at the 2010 census. In 1892, Summit's first post office opened. In 1909, it became a borough. On December 14, 1913, Summit merged with Branchburg (now part of Rahway) to form a single municipality. On July 1, 1915, Summit became an independent township when it separated from Branchburg. On October 10, 1925, Summit became an independent village when it separated from its predecessor town. On January 1, 1927, Summit merged with Rahway Township to form a single municipality known as "Summit." The first police officer in Summit was James Fenton who served until 1952. Negotiations for merger were started in 1951 but were unsuccessful because of differences over land ownership and services offered by both townships. On February 9th of that year both townships agreed to merge into one municipality under the name "Summit". The new municipal government consisted of a Mayor and six Council members who voted on ordinances and policies. As part of the merger process all phone numbers within each township were changed toone number instead of two separate numbers like they are now- this was done so that people would not have to switch providers if they moved or left their township during the merger process
Summit is a city in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 27,903 at the 2010 census. The Summit/Webster School District has a population of over 3600 students and employees. The City of Summit was incorporated on February 14, 1883. It grew rapidly due to the invention of the telegraph system and construction of railroads in the area. On July 1, 1920, it merged with the township of Webster to form a new city government which had more power than any other municipality in Mercer County. During World War II, many military installations were located in or near Summit including Fort Dix (now called Deming), Fort Monmouth (now called Hawthorne) and Camp Hill (now called Picatinny Park). In 1951 Summit became home to Monmouth University after its merger with Rutgers University's Livingston Campus. The city experienced economic growth during the late 1970s and early 1980s as a result of numerous high-tech companies locating in or around town such asIntel Technology Park and Hewlett-Packard's plasma manufacturing plant; however this ended when Intel moved out of town later that decade and most high-tech companies have since left or been relocated elsewhere within Mercer County while some have continued to operate but are no longer based in Summit. In recent years there has been an increase in development activity within downtown Summit with several new buildings being constructed including One Financial Plaza which overlooks Central Avenue and is one of only two skyscrapers built within DowntownMercer County since 2007 Today, downtown features several major retailers such as Macy's/Fashion Mall (anchored by Sears), JCPenney/Jurors' Hallmark Center Outlets & Sam's Club warehouses as well as restaurants such as Starbucks Coffee & Dunkin Donuts - both opened within the past 5 years - making it one of the most active areas for retail shopping in central New Jersey In addition to its core business districts downtown Summit is also home to several smaller districts containing various types of businesses: SciencePlex district contains science facilities such as a Planetarium and Aquarium; SocialDistrict contains social services agencies; Arts DISTRICT includes art galleries; Education DISTRICT includes schools offering pre-kindergarten through eighth grade education

Summit is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 8,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1834, James K. Polk and his wife Frances were married there in a small chapel on the Summit Avenue side of the town square. The first post office was established in Summit in 1835. The first settlers to Summit were Dutchman Hendrick van den Berg and his family who arrived from Holland in 1795 and started a farm west of present-day Summit Avenue. They named their new land "Summit" after Mount Mitchell in North Carolina where they had been born and raised. In 1834, President James K Polk's wife Frances (née Whipple) married John Fenton at nearby White Sands Chapel when they both were visiting New York City for their honeymoon. The ceremony took place on October 14th before an audience of about twenty people including members of the U.S Congress which was then held at Madison Square Garden following George Washington's death two days earlier. Fenton served as Mayor of Summit from 1865 to 1870; he also served as Superintendent of schools for Morristown Township during this time period while living near what is now Broad Street between Park Row and Forbes Place downtown). After Fenton's term ended, he donated $20,000 towards development plans for what would become today's Downtown Summit area which included creating a public square/park with busts of early mayors such as Stephen Atherton (1856-1924), Augustus Biddle (1850-1902), Abram Hennepin (1822-1900) and Reverend Thomas Wickerham (1792-1855). Over time, many businesses have located within or adjacent to Downtown Summit including Barnes & Noble bookstore chain headquarters since its opening in 1998; Comcast cable company Headquarters since 1999; local carriage companies like Direct TV Now and Charter Spectrum); PNC Banknorthwest helicopter hangar located on Route 206 across from Walmart; Edison Electric Light Company plant located just east along US 1 outside New Brunswick; Asbury Park Press sub shop known locally as "The News Shop" opened by Postmaster General Alfred Munch in 1908 inside First National Bank building adjacent to Asbury Park High School... Plus many other restaurants, stores and services that make up Downtownsummit today!

In 1828, the state of New Jersey became a part of the Union and was renamed to the United States of America. The state's capital, Trenton, was named in honor of George Washington and his first wife, Martha Washington. The city's original name may have been derived from an Indian word meaning "haunted place."
