The first gun target in Summit, New Jersey was a small blacksmith shop located on the corner of Court and Market Streets. The target was shot by a local resident in 1835. In 1860, the first rifle target in Summit was erected at the site of what is now Second Presbyterian Church. The Rifle Company of America donated the $1,500 needed to erect thetarget.
Summit, New Jersey is a small town located in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,998 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden-Wilmington Combined Statistical Area. The Summit post office was opened on July 1, 1839, and closed on December 30, 2010. The first settler in what is now Summit was George Washington Hill who came to live there with his family in 1796. In 1814 (the year before America became a country), General Philip Schuyler built a house at the junction of US 11 and Rte 6 in present-day Summit Township. After Schuyler's death in 1815, his widow donated land for the town center which included today's downtown area as well as all of what are now Summits west side villages. In 1838 Samuel Hubbard built a cabin on Spring Road in present-day Summit Township; it served as the nucleus for what would become Summit's only school – Hubbard School (now known as Ridgefield Elementary). In 1886 James Sweeny founded an agricultural cooperative called The Soil and Water Company which provided water to residents of surrounding townships including Summit and Plainsboro without charge; this organization remains active to this day. In 1907 when both Reading Terminal Railway Co., owner of the then Pennsylvania Railroad main line from Darien Junction to Camden Yards through Summit and Plainsboro,, and American Tobacco Company leased trackage over the PRR mainline from Quaker Steamship Lines at Point Breeze to provide intercity service between Philly & Camden Yards Depot (now Citizens Bank Park) & Union Station - "The Great White Way" - President Theodore Roosevelt visited American Tobacco Headquarters during lunchtime on May 12th while en route from Albany, NY via Newark Penn Station to Atlantic City where he would keynote an event celebrating America's new century soon after - making him one of just five people ever honored by ET when traveling by train! A decade earlier another railroad company had taken up residence adjacent to Amherst Road/US 11 east of present-day Summits – Delaware Railroad Corporation which later became known as CSX Transportation Corporation – turning an ancient wooded parcel located north of US 11 into what is today one of Southwestern PA’s most prominent commercial districts with its large shopping centers along Center Street/Pennsylvania Avenue sandwiched between two high rises housing some OFAC headquarters functions such as law offices annexes thereto etc., plus traditional brick buildings used by many local governments agencies + other private businesses etc….. itself being developed primarily utilizing government grant money streamlining hitherto cumbersome planning procedures usually involving 3 or more separate architects working independently productively over several years !!!!! Today much like then "Summit saw everything that happened during its time", providing opportunities for retail businesses growth especially due to its close proximity also having major access points including I-95 exit 7 minutes away!!"

Summit was a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,548 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden metropolitan area. The town was founded by George Washington and his family on November 8, 1781 as a result of land grants from the Crown. Summit's first school opened in 1782. In 1847, a post office called Parkersburg opened in Summit and served as the only post office in the town for 19 years before being discontinued due to lack of customers. In 1906, Summit received its own ZIP code when it merged with Easton to form the Camden-Easton area. On February 24, 1920, President Warren G Harding dedicated an airfield at Waltham Corner which became known as "Harding Air Force Base". The base housed two squadrons of USAAF bombers during World War II; those units were activated on December 15th 1941 under Lt Colonel Curtis LeMay and continued operations until September 1945 when they were deactivated due to budget cuts. The base reopened on October 14th 1946 as Midway Airfield with increased activity including recreational flying opportunities for local residents which continue today through Midway Airport Authority minutes away from downtown Sumter Township (the original name). On May 5th 1957 Summit had its first parade since incorporation as a borough (and since then has celebrated numerous cultural events such As Independence Day each year). From 1960-1963 Summit had their own Fire Department but this department folded after one season because of low funding from city coffers In 1984-1985 summit withdrew from NJSSA and merged into American Legion Post #814 . In 1987-1988 summit withdrew from American Legion Post #814 again and reorganized themselves into Citizens Brigade Theatre No 925 . From 1990-1996 summit withdrew yet again becoming an independent organization once again . On July 22nd 1999 summit amalgamated with Parkersburg Borough to becomeSummit Borough Council effective July 1st 2000

It became an important salt-mining and trade center during the Revolutionary War, providing food for the Continental Army and support for New Jersey's cause. In 1797, Summit was elevated to a town with its own government. The community grew rapidly after its incorporation, and by 1800 it had a population of 814 people. In 1814, Summit became the site of the Battle of Monmouth, which helped inaugurate the American Revolution in New Jersey. The battle resulted in a victory for British forces over American forces, helping to secure control of northeastern New Jersey from the French. In 1818, Summit lost its status as a town when it merged with nearby Paramus Township to form Ramapo Township. During World War II, Summit played an important role as a military airfield used by the United States Air Force during Operation Overlord.
