The first T-Shirts were made in Summit, New Jersey in the early 1800's. At that time, it was a small town and there wasn't much to do. So, people would go out and purchase firearms for their personal protection.
Summit is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,527 at the 2010 census. Summit has been part of the New York metropolitan area since its incorporation as a borough in 1814. The first Europeans to visit what is now Summit were Dutch traders and their Indian guides who surveyed and explored the area on October 8, 1624. On December 12 of that year, Captain John Smith of Jamestown discovered the abandoned Wappingers Falls (now called Park Place) while traveling through Middlesex County on his way to attack English settlements in North America. This discovery led to an exploration party led by Colonel George Washington which included local man John Dobbs and two Mohawk chiefs from Perth Amboy, Adam D'Angell and Abraham de la Salle. The group mapped out a route for future British colonists to travel through Middlesex County when they reached Atlantic City on May 5, 1625. In 1765, Samuel Morin purchased shares in the proprietorship of Fort Lee from Governor Nicholas Scammell for $2 each; he soon built a mansion there which served as both fortification andresidential quarters for the community's early leaders including Morris himself. In 1796–97 Timothy Tegethoff became one of three trustees appointed by Public Trustee James Woodbridge to manage public lands within present-day Summit Township as part of his effort to improve access to natural resources throughout New Jersey via various means such as land grants and township organization into villages or townships. By 1800 Tegethoff had organized what would become known as "The Pioneer Society" with himself serving as president until his death in 1802; this society helped design many aspects of modern day Summit including the original courthouse square where today's Borough Hall stands and also laid out important streets within present-day Summit Township itself including Third Street (later renamed State Avenue), Neilson Street ( later named Livingston Avenue), Market Street (which still runs down Main Street today), Service Road/Route 22/US 13 (now US 9/I-95)and many more! In 1814 Union troops under General Andrew Johnson moved into southeastern Pennsylvania during the War of 1812 seeking refuge from American Indians who had attacked their encampments near Monmouth Junction (). It was during this time that General Johnson's aide Major Augustus Philips located what is now Summit Creek northwest of Westwick on Kittatinny Mountain after hearing about its potential development potential from some friendly Native Americans he encountered while marching through Bucks County along I-80 en route back eastward that fall afternoon. He recommended that Congress provide funds for developers — primarily Jews —to build mills around it so that production could be increased rapidly enough to finance war costs instead of being used merely for raw materials shipped eastward across open ocean! Just over three years later on November 26th 1830 Isaac Hubbard purchased 1 acre () at present day Springwood Drive west side of Mount Laurel Ave., just southwestof I-95 junction with US 1 following an offer letter written by Phillips eighteen months earlier! With this purchase Hubbard became onehalf owner (), with partner Jeremiah Day owning another 25% (). On January 15th 1834 Hubbard met with members OFE () chaired by President Andrew Jackson at Philbrook College in Philadelphia following reports about goldfields found near California’s Central Valley whereby thousands Production Assn men were striking millions worth $1 million per week!! After hearing about these developments Philips ordered General David Hunter commanding forces stationed at Trenton Ferry Bridge across Delaware River north of Princeton Lake northeastward march southwestward towards those fields!!! Assembling 4200 soldiers under Lt Col Isaac Hasenhackl commando force numbering 6 officers & 100 men started forward after main body halted 3 miles due westwind preventing them from reaching source before nightfall becoming known as “Peninsular Campaign”!!!!! The failed attempt resulted in no indication whatsoever concerning whether or not gold existed within those fields,,,, but regardless major news accounts verified extensive placer goldfields existent along movements routes followed by army!!!!!!!!! With increasing evidence available Armstrong assigned privateer Captain Elias DeWolfeFFD () 2 weeks prior sailing up Delaware River estuary opposite newly developing Gold Fields bearing flags red & white colorsDDD .........................Afternoon Tuesday September 7th 1840 Capt DeWolfe arrived off shore approximately 200 yards upstream from current site occupied previouslyby Frenchmen Army Corps POWs !!Captain DeWolfe immediately entered house providing shelter & dinner forhis crewmembers before making thorough search resultingin finding numerous Nugget shellshells totaling Various value all insidehouse...............Today marks 175 years anniversary since Capt De Wolfe sailed into new discovery ............... Summit Township, New Jersey was formed on December 15, 1785, from the merger of several small towns in Morris County. The township is named for Mount Summit, a peak located just to the east of its original boundaries. The township's first inhabitants were Dutch immigrants who arrived in the area in the mid-1700s. initial land sales and development in Summit took place largely through donation by prominent local farmers and traders. Development In Summit proceeded slowly until 1876, when a railroad was constructed through the township and it began to attract businesses and population growth. In 1916, voters approved a referendum to create a borough within Summit Township. This resulted in the establishment of Summit Borough as an independent municipality with its own government and governance structures which lasted until 1978. Today, Summit remains one of NJ’s most diverse communities with significant concentrations of Italian Americans (98%), Germans (6%), Jews (3%), Catholics (1%) and Maplewood residents who are primarily Dutch American or English American background. Additionally, there are sizable amounts of Polish Americans as well as Japanese Americans who have settled within the township over time
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress passed a resolution calling for an American Revolution. On September 11th of that year, the Declaration of Independence was issued. The Revolutionary War continued until 1783. The Treaty of Paris was signed on October 15th and ended the war.
