South River is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. South River is located on the southern bank of the Raritan River and includes portions of the villages of Mineola and West Milford. The first Europeans to visit what is now South River were French in 1609 when they passed through the area on their way from Newark to Manhattan. In 1727, Sir George Carteret granted land north of present-day South River to John Norris for his share in an expedition that explored and mapped much of New Jersey. At its peak as a township in 1838, South River had a population of 804; however, by 1850 it had shrunk to 458 residents due to factors such as waves of migration from rural areas into townships like SouthRiver during the 1830s and 1840s (the number of people living within township boundaries increased rapidly after 1835), changes in public policy that favored incorporation into larger municipalities, lack of new development along the riverbanks since before 1800, and increasing competition for land by other municipalities. In 1875–76, aided by $2 million in federal funding under President Ulysses S. Grant’s Morrill Land Grant Act (1862),southriver undertook an ambitious program to improve transportation infrastructure including widening and deepening two crossings over the Raritan at Mineola and West Milford; filling up some small creek valleys with earth;constructing four bridges over streams running through our town borders: one near Sayreville crossing over Hackensack Creek thence down Towanda Valley Road past Summit Junction then turning eastward concurrent with Paramus Turnpike across Sayreville Brook Bridge;and constructing two miles (3 km) long branch lines connecting various points throughout southriver via trackless sandhills – all without having any contact with or use of modern means either electrical or mechanical! Additionally – beginning on July 1st 1865 – southriver began providing milk for local farmers at their homes using connections made between private resources such as wells supplying water needed for milking cows and artificial harbors built along both sides of Raritan where boats could unload milk while being unloaded opposite Bordentown Terminal! This program continued until 1922 when commercial tankers began carrying oil products inland from NJsuite ports so milking stopped altogether!! Todaysouthriver still provides milk twice weekly for local farms anywhere within its boundary

South River, New Jersey is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,153 at the 2010 census. South River is located on the southern border of Hunterdon County and is bordered by the towns of Uniondale to the south and East Rutherford to the west. It also includes an enclave within Fair Lawn to the north. The first settlement in what would become South River was made on May 26, 1781 by Peter Piper and three other men from Elizabethtown Township in Mercer County when they struck out for new land in what is now Hunterdon County. They named their new community after a small stream that flowed through their original location - South river meaning "stream" in Dutch and "river" in English. In 1823, South River became part of Middlesex Township which was formed from portions ofHunterdon and Somerset counties. In 1834, Middlesex Township was divided into two parts: One part remained under the jurisdiction of Hunterdon county while the other part became known as Northumberland township which included much of what is now South River. From 1835-1864, Northumberland township was controlled by a Tory party leadership which resulted in many changes including annexing much of SouthRiver including its commercial center waterfront area to Bloomfield Hills (now Bloomfield). In 1916, due to World War I Veterans Reemployment Act Amendments passed by Congress, all citizens over 21 were required to register with Selective Service Authorities within 30 days or face military service without pay if they could not find work outside their home country or during wartime years when there were no available jobs outside America because so many people had gone off to fight wars abroad that there were not enough workers coming back home to support families back at home. As a result of this law change many residents who did not have jobs or family obligations enlisted in military forces either right away or later on down the road when unemployment rates increased again due mainly to World War II industrial production opportunities overseas that came back instead of being filled domestically after war ended although some people did return home briefly during peacetime periods for brief periods before going into exile again like Black Jack Daniels founder Daniel Patrick Moynihan who lived temporarily IN Canada during WWI as he faced charges US citizens had violated Espionage Act By reporting information about American weapons program he knew could have been used against us – he eventually served 3 months imprisonment & 3 year probation) On November 15th 1933 local resident Earle Crouse led a group consisting mostly farmers and others who owned acres around Ayre Lake near present day West Orangeville Road into fields surrounding Ayre Lake where they burned any crops not needed for food storage as part of an effort called The Great Ayre Lake Burn which also occurred at nearby Clearwater Lakeshore Park on December 4th 1933; these actions helped spark public opinion against Socialists/Communists (the term then applied only TO those living east OF Avenue Rd.) After 1933 most residents supportive OF Rooseveltomics worked hard side BY side WITH him doing his best given difficult economic times though some still feel resentment towards him today because SOME things got better BUT SO DID THE POVERTY RATES! As time went on more businesses opened up along Route 80 making it easier access To education - good job opportunities arrived just like everywhere else but some folks still don't see eye-to-eye with government policy etc... even 50+ years latersome may be surprised!
South River was a small village located on the southern bank of the Delaware River. It was part of New Jersey until 1776, when it became part of Pennsylvania. The town was first settled in 1695 and it grew to be a small community with a population of about 100 people by 1800. It declined in importance after 1812, when the Delaware and Raritan Canal replaced the ancient Chester-Newark Path as the main transportation artery between Philadelphia and New York City. In 1814, South River had an enrollment of only 10 people; by 1840, its population had shrunk to 5 people. In 1867, South River merged with nearby Easton to form a single municipality. The town lost its status as an important community after World War II because much industrial production moved away from Pennsylvania to states such as Ohio and Connecticut during that era. However, some vestiges of its former culture remain today, most notably its traditional agricultural economy which still depends on large tracts of land leased from farmers in order to grow crops for human consumption rather than for export.
