South Plainfield, New Jersey is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,877 at the 2010 census. South Plainfield is located on the southern edge of Paramus Township and it forms part of the Bergen County metropolitan area. The name "South Plainfield" was first settled by Europeans in 1666 as part of an effort to extended European trade into what is now central New Jersey. The original grant for the land included much of what now makes up Paramus Township and parts of Westwood and Rutherford townships. In 1812, John Nicholson granted 5 square miles (14 km²) within present-dayParamus Township to Isaac Stockton in recognition for his services during the War of 1812. In 1821, South Plainfield became part of Middlesex Township when that township was formed from portions of West Burlington and Rahway Townships. The village's official incorporation took place on December 15th, 1827 under the name "East Brunswick". In 1840, the township gained a full municipalities charter which allowed it to include South Plainfield within its boundaries for voting purposes alone; however this did not mean that all business conducted in East Brunswick were actually conducted in South Plainfield. One early resident of South Plainfield was Alfred Seltzer who helped found Asbury Park with his brother Jacob Seltzer in 1824. On May 3rd 1870, residents voted to annex Gloucester City as part of a referendum which resulted in Northampton becoming an incorporated city while South Plainfield remained unincorporated until 1862 when it annexed into Northampton as well. One reason why there wasn't more annexation back then may have been because many people living within South Plainsville - including some who had originally settled there - decided they didn't want to be apart from their friends and family back home which resided within Northampton or Camden County respectively. In 1907, two major fires burned through much of southeastern Paramus Township leaving extensive damage including homes and businesses; these fires are consideredto be one of main reasons behind the growth popularity dubbed "theparamus boom." However due to insurance policies at that time preventing companies from footing claims for losses suffered by their customers during natural disasters like those caused by fire or storm rather than simply taking any cash value off property left vacant after such events occurred (a policy still STANDING TODAY), most reconstruction efforts took years before anything close to resembling normal life could return to paramus proper although some streets remain named after firefighters or other local heroes today such as Pine Street/Alfred Seltzer Road commemorating both men’s careers). On November 14th 1989 Northridge High School students walked out onto our school lawn demanding an end to racism on campus following Rodney King's beating by Black Los Angeles Police Officers Outside America's Most Famous School! This event has become known as "THE DAY THE WORLD CAME TO AN END". After weeks busing students together from various schools throughout Ramapo Valley we staged a peaceful sit-in outside NSHE protesting racial discrimination against African Americans on our campus tuition FREE & without retaliation! Our boycott & protests continue every year since then

South Plainfield is a town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,876 at the 2010 census. South Plainfield was founded in 1758 by English colonists as part of an attempt to create a new colony in what is now New Jersey. The town became an incorporated municipality on February 14, 1917. The first settler and father of South Plainfield was John Whitehead who arrived from England in 1758 with his family. He built a cabin near the present-day intersection of Route 22 and Routes 3 and 4 to provide for himself and his family. His wife Elizabeth (née Stevens) also came over from England with their two children. They named their settlement "South Plainfield" after the plain where they found it, as there were no hills or trees in that area back then. In 1824, John Whitehead's son-in-law David Haddon erected a gristmill on the creek which flows through today's town center. This mill ran until 1886 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1865, Christopher Noyes purchased the mill site from David Haddon and continued operations until it closed its doors for good in 1903. Today you can see remnants of the mill building off of Main Street just east of Interstate 95/Route 22 entrance ramp; this structure is known locally as "The Mill House." In 1867, James Denton bought land opposite of Christopher Noyes' mill on Borden Road from Nicholas Biddle for $1 per acre (the nearest township had been West Milford since 1794). Denton developed this land into one of South Plainfields most successful businesses – he operated a sawmill heretilting lumber from logs brought downriver by boatload or trainloads while also cultivating crops such as corn and beans on his own land adjacent to the river bank. By 1881, Denton had added another business – an agricultural store – to his portfolio and renamed it "Dentons". After several years Operating both stores simultaneously – something unheard of at that time – he decided to sell one business interest (the Agricultural Store) and start up his own farmstead called Farmington Station on July 1st 1885; this marks the beginning of what would become one hundred years consecutive operation by Dentons Farms Incorporated! From humble beginnings serving local farmers throughout Sussex County until today’s global company; Dentons Foods has provided quality food products for Americans all over the world!
South Plainfield was founded in 1732 by the Quakers. The town was originally named Westville, but changed to its current name in 1735 due to opposition from the local Dutch population. The first settler in South Plainfield was John Glover, who arrived in 1732. In 1739, South Plainfield became part of New Jersey after it was granted a charter from King George III. In 1814, South Plainfield became part of the Township of Plainsboro and then the Borough of Plainsboro until 1974 when it became a township again. The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected at-large on an annual basis with no term limitation. The trustees are responsible for maintaining public roads and bridges, providing community services such as education and social assistance, and managing finances. As of 2019, there is no high school in South Plainfield but there are several elementary schools which serve students throughout the township including: North Valley Elementary School (K-8), Valley View Elementary School (K-8), Madison Avenue Middle School (9th-12th grade), Park Avenue Intermediate/Senior High School (13th-16th grade), and Easton Avenue Senior High School (17th-19th grade).
