By 1850, there were over 200 residents living in Somerville Township including sixty-six farmers and ninety-four merchants; three churches were also active then: Saint Michael’s Episcopal Church (founded1786), Stroud Methodist Episcopal Church (founded1812), and Christ’s Chapel (First Presbyterian) (founded1774).
