Somers Point is a town in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 11,091 at the 2010 census. Somers Point is located on the Atlantic Coast of New Jersey and is adjacent to Monmouth County. The first settlers in Somers Point were Dutch colonists who came to what is now Ocean County in 1664. They named their settlement "New Amsterdam" after their new home city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The Dutch founded two other settlements in what is now Ocean County: West Milford and East Milford. In 1814, these three settlements were combined into one municipality: Somers Point Township. In 1827, five miles (8 km) of the present-day town line was drawn between Somers Point Township and Monmouth County; this boundary formed part of the then-new township's eastern border with Long Branch Township. As part of its eastern border changes during the 19th century, parts of both Long Branch Township and Somers Point Township experienced growth while others saw minimal change. By 1860, portions of both townships had been annexed by Bergen County as well as some portions of Monmouthshire Borough within Bergen County which changed hands several times before becoming part of Journal Square proper withinParamus borough on May 24th, 1974 following an election victory by Governor Edward J.) Salerno over incumbent Mayor John P.) Fenton Jr.. When it became clear that Paramus would not be annexed by Journal Square proper during the campaign for mayor due to strong opposition from residents there then-Mayor Fenton unsuccessfully petitioned for annexation himself only for it to be denied following public hearings on behalf of residents living along Route 62 just east of Paramus Junction where he lived until his death on November 10th 1978 . From there on out it resided entirely within Montclair City Council territory until being transferred back inside Bergen Counties effective January 1st 2007 There have been no major population movements or changes throughout much Of Paramus since those early days!

In addition to its high level of business activity, Somers Point has also been a center for music and theater since at least the early 1800s with productions such as "Anson Ford" and "Dracula". As recently as 1984, local residents staged a boycott against IBM because they felt their company wasn't supporting community development initiatives like renewable energy or anti-nuclear campaigns
